I've never seen a hiker "where" knee socks. I imagine they don't want to look like a putz.

Oh.

The jury is still out (think runners wearing compression socks). They're pretty good for the following reasons:

1) Combats swelling on rough trails and long hikes.

2) Protects legs against brush and rocks, especially when you want to wear shorts to keep your boys aired out.

3) Good for quick tick checks.

You see quite a few hikers on the AT and other trails using them.

eta: I should add you also see compression shorts and leggings. It's really up to each hiker what works for them.

So, you're telling me Emmett Till would've been murdered had there been no false accusation of rape?

I'm saying that no matter what, he would not have died if he was white.

You can find false accusations by people of all kinds if you're willing to look far and deep enough. If you're settling on this one thing as being of some sort of profound significance it's because you're looking for justification.

Accusations must be handled on a case by case basis. There have always been false accusations and always will be. But if we reject investigating them, then we've already shown we aren't interested in justice. The Republicans weren't interested in investigating Kavanaugh just like the Democrats weren't interested in investigating Bill Clinton. Both were and are wrong.

The south rose again in 2016 through DJT.

Did they really? I predict that no one will be ultimately hurt more by Trumpism than relatively already impoverished regions like the south. Trump has publicly expressed a contempt for poor people. He cares only about further augmenting the wealth and power of already immensely rich people like himself. That was his whole motivation for wanting to become president. He is obviously blatantly using his Presidency to further enrich himself. He hardly even tries to hide the fact! If anything, he openly gloats over it--at least to his wealthy friends and donors.
The president's budget is supposed to be a visionary statement of the president's priorities, unencumbered by the messy realities of negotiating with Congress. It has no binding legal power, but it sets the stage for debate in Congress.

So what's Trump's vision for the country?

Apparently, Trump's America is a place where the poor – even children – can go hungry and homeless while the rich get richer, and billions of tax dollars freely flow to Pentagon contractors.

Trump's plans for ending or cutting government programs have something to hurt almost everyone – from cuts to rural business services, to federal student aid, the Global Climate Change initiative that seeks to help countries both adapt to and prevent climate change, and workplace health and safety.

But not everyone is harmed equally by this budget. The president's budget disproportionately targets the poor.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Look. If you want to be taken seriously I need to you to admit Emmett Till wouldn't have been murdered for raping a white woman if a white woman hadn't made the false accusation he raped her.

Can we start there?

No, because it's a misframing of the situation. The woman claimed that he whistled and grabbed at her, not that he raped her. You don't even have your facts right. But go ahead and make up whatever you want because you're not interested in the actual history. You want to defend male assholes. What a noble cause that must be.

I don't care if you take me seriously or not, Doc. I see you and the Dog recycle tired old misogynist horsesheet and flippancies. I don't admire it. It disgusts me, frankly. Bro culture sucks. It elevates the douchebags and the bullies and that's what we see here, too. I thought you were brighter than that. But I could be wrong.

Let's make it a little personal. I have two female family members who've been sexually assaulted. I can give you disgusting and horrifying details. I can also tell you that it's the attitudes of people like you and the Dog that kept them silent and afraid all of these years. One was four years old and the other in her 20s. The four year old's family left the ward because they were intimidated by the bishop, they were told "Don't ruin this young man's life!" What do you think happened to him? Did he change? Maybe he's on his way to being a high official in church or government. Great, huh?

Don't play little race vs gender games on me. It's a silly diversion. The investigation of K was a joke. Not even a fig leaf. They didn't try and they didn't find. Collins talked like it was a criminal trial but it never, never was. That was a misapplication of standards and procedures. Period. There are and were and will be concerns about the impartiality of K. His outburst made that all the more clear. And that is the case regardless of how you dice and blend disparate bits of history into some sort of conspiracy cocktail.

Doc, can you support the claim Till was accused of rape?

ETA: Mak pointed out what I was thinking regarding Till's lynching above.

Finally. I was hoping someone would make this connection. You're right. Emmett Till didn't rape and murder anyone. It was his father. And you also know who didn't rape anyone? That would be Judge Kavanaugh. And yet, I see that he's being called a rapist both here and across the Internet. And by extension Republicans are now pro-rape, Rapepublicans, and various other aspersions created and propagated by a frenzied Left wing smear apparatus.

That's fine you view me through the lens of your biases. The fact of the matter is you've just went all in with people who don't care about anything to do with fairness, due process, or common sense. The only that that matters in this case is to take Kavanaugh out because he's Trump's pick. This is 100% political, and the fact that you and your ilk are a-ok with absolutely destroying a man's reputation based on an accusation, that is factually not supported, at all, is deeply disappointing.

But yeah. It's totes about bro culture, brah.

The fact that you just lumped me in with that scenario makes it absolutely impossible to discuss the Kavanaugh situation. As tragic as your family's situation is, what do you want people to do about it? Just damned throw all sense of presupposition of innocence out the window when it comes to very serious allegations? Of course your family deserves respect and consideration. But so does the law, dude. How you get from respect for due process and the law to 'y0U h4t# r8pe vIctkmz' is unconscionable. But I guess that's where we're at these days.

You and I will have to disagree what this fiasco was, how the government should've approached it, what motivations would apply, and why the Democrats did what they did. Note: It's only a conspiracy on the Republican side, but when the Democrats are blaming the Repubs it's totes legitimate and they're not conspiring at all. GMAFB.

Wow, Doc. So now you're putting words in my mouth. How much are you willing to make up? It was political both ways. How naïve are you?

"The fact of the matter is you've just went all in with people who don't care about anything to do with fairness, due process, or common sense. The only that that matters in this case is to take Kavanaugh out because he's Trump's pick. "

Wow. What a load of self-generated horsecock this is. I'm a moderate. It's 100% political both ways, dude. I criticize Democrats all the time. Maybe you can't handle complexity beyond one dimension?

Facts support that he can't be impartial. Facts support that he's a partisan political operative. Facts support that K is open to what Trump wants in the expansion of executive power. We are already lacking Madison's checks and balances. He is going to make that worse. And that's another fact.

I'm happy to deeply disappoint someone who admires Trump and Kavanaugh. I'm just getting started.

Mak,

If you don't want me mirroring your statements, presuppositions, and nonsense argumentation then you're going to have to do a better job at maintaining your temper.

It's weird talking to you guys the way you talk to others, and then you're completely oblivious how the tactic is being employed. And I'm including you in this statement today, because it's happening right now.

That said I find you generally even-keeled and your centrism has been apparent over the years. This thing, though. Whew lad. You're off the reservation.
