Yes, you're "just saying."

by the way, the accusers in the lawsuit have already been corroborated in their accusations against their father who molested them, admitted it, and received psychological treatment for pedophilia. The question is whether the Miles were also involved in the sexual abuse.

From what I am hearing, a lawyer has made a statement that states he delivered a letter to Elder Nelson from a prominent Washington DC contact on how to keep a lid on this.

It doesn't make the Miles guilty, of course, but given all the police reports from the time have gone missing...it does add some suspicious and puzzling layers.

This book is generally credited with stoking the fires of the panic, if not being the ignition point itself:

Michelle Remembers

Michelle Remembers is a 1980 book co-written by Canadian psychiatrist Lawrence Pazder and his psychiatric patient (and eventual wife) Michelle Smith. A best-seller, Michelle Remembers was the first book written on the subject of Satanic ritual abuse and is an important part of the controversies beginning in the 1980s regarding Satanic ritual abuse and "recovered" memory. The book has subsequently been discredited by several investigations which found no corroboration of the book's events, and that the events described in the book were extremely unlikely and in some cases impossible.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that similar books had been written in the LDS culture. If you can remember the name of the book, let us know.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Sparks

Beatrice Sparks (January 15, 1917 – May 25, 2012) was an American therapist and Mormon youth counselor who was known for producing books purporting to be the "real diaries" of troubled teenagers. The books deal with topical issues such as drug abuse, Satanism, teenage pregnancy or AIDS, and are presented as cautionary tales. Although Sparks presented herself as merely the discoverer and editor of the diaries, records at the U.S. Copyright Office show that in fact she is listed as the sole author for all but two of them.

Beatrice Ruby Mathews Sparks was born in Goldburg, Custer County, Idaho and grew up in Logan, Utah.[1] She began working with teenagers in 1955, after attending the University of California at Los Angeles and Brigham Young University.[2] She worked as a music therapist at Utah State Mental Hospital and taught continuing education courses at BYU.

Critics have questioned Sparks's qualifications and experience.[3] Researchers have been unable to find a record of the Ph.D. she claimed on book jackets and in her résumé.[2][3] One interviewer wrote that Sparks was "vague about specifics" when asked about her counselling qualifications and professional experience.[3]

Sparks stated that her experiences working with troubled adolescents made her want to produce cautionary tales that would keep other teens from falling into the same traps. Her first work, Go Ask Alice, was published under the byline "Anonymous" in 1971. In interviews conducted over the next few years, Sparks identified herself as the book's editor and related that Alice consisted partly of the actual diary of a troubled teen, and partly of fictional events based on Sparks's experiences working with other teens.[3] Sparks was unable to produce the original diary for critics.[4] Later editions of the book contained the standard disclaimer: "This book is a work of fiction. Any references to historical events, real people, or real locales are used fictitiously. Other names, places, characters, and incidents are the product of the author's imagination, and any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental."[4]

In 1973, after the publication of Go Ask Alice, Marcella Barrett, a Pleasant Grove, Utah woman, approached Sparks to edit the journal of Barrett's deceased son Alden. Alden had suffered from depression and committed suicide at age sixteen and Barrett felt that his story might help other at-risk teens. The result was Jay's Journal, which tells the story of a teenage boy drawn into Satanism. Barrett's family was horrified by the book.[2] They insisted that Alden had never been involved with the occult and that Sparks had used only 21 entries from his journal (out of 212 supposed entries that appeared in the finished book).[2][4] Sparks defended the book, claiming she got the extra material from letters and interviews with Alden's friends.[5]

After Jay's Journal, Sparks produced many more "real diaries," including It Happened to Nancy: By an Anonymous Teenager (dealing with AIDS), Almost Lost: The True Story of an Anonymous Teenager's Life on the Streets (gang violence), Annie's Baby: The Diary of Anonymous, A Pregnant Teenager, Treacherous Love: The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (pupil seduced by teacher), Kim: Empty Inside: The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (eating disorders) and Finding Katie: The Diary of Anonymous, A Teenager in Foster Care.

Bibliography
Diaries
All these books were published with the byline 'Anonymous'. Some of them credit Sparks as editor; others (such as Go Ask Alice) do not mention her at all. Almost Lost and Kim: Empty Inside are the only books for which Sparks does not claim copyright as author of the entire work. For both these books, Sparks lays claim only to the editing, compilation and some (unspecified) additional material. The U.S. Copyright Office record for Kim adds the note that some material is taken from a preexisting diary.

Sensationalization does not help real victims of real child abuse. Sensationalization does help real perpetrators of real child abuse. Sensationalization is a major part of the problem.

Except that several law enforcement entities looked at these accusations and decided they did not merit further action. Were they all wrong? Were they all part of some huge cover-up? Or were the charges unfounded?

And isn't it interesting that "John and Jane Doe" filed this lawsuit soon after Russell M. Nelson because the president of the Church? Just a coincidence, right?

Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Nelson decreed a 10-day internet fast just as this lawsuit is coming to light.

Even if these allegations are unfounded - there is no doubt that Nelson & other leaders make mistakes - big mistakes like robbing members and the poor of tithes and contributing to mental illness by preaching cult mentality.

Today, in church before and after discussing how we could best follow the prophet unconditionally, we sang prophet-worship hymns - but I couldn’t sing that part - it is evil. Each time I go to Relief Society, I’m reminded why I usually don’t.

Mary said something about missing police records. Is that true?

Gathering the available documentation is the place to start.

Figuring out what's been omitted by media and what's missing from the record is part of the search.

Once we have a chronological list of occurrences with links, this discussion will be a lot more clear.
