Why is it a ‘thing’ for conservatives if Warren’s DNA test cannot prove that she - or anyone else - is Cherokee, specifically? The test reveals a Native American heritage nonetheless.
Trump questioned that and was proven wrong. And now it’s interesting watching his minions fall all over themselves to defend him welching on a bet.
If I had to guess is they didn't like her using an obviously distant relative to achieve minority status. They found it absurd, pandering, and perceptually it appeared she was taking advantage of a minority population to earn privilege and Liberal street cred.

I'm not aware that she has been granted minority status for her claim, for any particular reason or position, but maybe someone else can provide that detail.
Nevertheless, there are a few interesting assumptions that some folks could derive from these sorts of arguments:
1. Whereas a white conservative can be cheered on by his peers for grasping at his distant past to claim a 'southern heritage' and identify with the Confederate States (including proudly displaying the flag of a rebel nation), a non-white or mixed race person should be accused of "using an obviously distant relative to achieve minority status" if the latter identifies or acknowledges a genealogical connection with non-white relatives of an approximately similar past time period.
2. Identifying with a Native American ancestry - if the connection is minor - is seen as pandering if the individual is a liberal, but as culturally sensitive if the individual is a conservative.
3. Liberals automatically grant 'street cred' to whitish-looking people claiming a distant non-white genealogical connection.
4. Liberals should just shut their mouths about any genealogical non-white history and pretend that they can only be 100-percent lily-white Caucasian, lest they will offend the tender sensibilities of folks who prefer to identify as only one heritage or race, as well as risk being accused of any number of silly assumptions such as #2 above.
And we should cheer on calling mixed race individuals derogatory nicknames.
We certainly live in interesting times.
