What should we make of the fact that most of these devices had obvious timing devices like digital clocks attached to them, whereas a really serious bomber would likely use a more subtle detonation method that was not an overtly obvious timing device?
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I see that Trump's response to bombs story is to blame negative coverage of him in the media and tell them to stop it. Trump is a very, very bad person.

Yup! How there can still be any reasonable doubt about that in any reasonable person's mind is unfathomable!!

Trump said:
"I just want to tell you that in these times, we have to unify. We have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America,”
but you focus on tweet...because well, Twitter:
"A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News"
yeah, that all sounds like something a "very, very bad person" would say (whereas Hillary's blatant call for violence goes applauded)...nicely done.

The full quote is, "A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"
And yes, because our president is a sociopath who is not bound by anything resembling intellectual consistency, I do look at the totality of his comments. A performative "Violence is bad" followed by a, "Mainstream media better knock it off, or else" from someone whose main campaign strategy is based on whipping up grievance and anger is the message and it is a very bad one.
Clinton didn't make a blatant call for violence and you know it.

Um, let's think.
Do we have a President who has a clear record of encouraging violence against protestors at his rallies, calling the press 'enemies of the people', and saying how much he admires people who body-slam those who ask them inconvenient questions?
Why yes, we do.
And since there are millions of Trump-supporting Americans out there who appear to love this kind of talk, why would it be so surprising if one of them (it only takes one) decided it was a good moment to 'get 'er done'? I agree that is is probably a bad thing from the Republicans' electoral point of view that this should have happened now, but I don't think we can reasonably assume that your average pipe-bomb maker takes a wide and nuanced range of factors into account in his bomb-making decisions.
Isn't that by far the simplest and most probable explanation of how these devices got sent out?

1. You prefer the narrow audience of "tweets", i get it...but to ignore his other public statement just makes your posts seem more disingenuous on this topic....or maybe narrow-minded is a better characterization of your OP. And now he is calling for civility, but your posts are entrenched.
2. Hillary made as overt call for violence as Trump made an overt blame-the-press for the fake bombs. One does not dismiss civil behavior in the context of "survival" for what you believe as a passive strategy. This you know, its time to let her go dude, she is a very, very bad person.

Trump has about 55 million Twitter followers, doesn't he? That's a narrow audience?

Quote and link, please.
Searching for 'Clinton violence' I find this, via a newspaper link that did not quote the original -
Clinton: 'You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for'
But where is the call for violence here? She is just saying that it can be a mistake to be polite (I mean, that's what 'civility' means, right?) when dealing with someone who regards civility as something for wimps and losers.
Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that civility in America can only begin again if Democrats win back the House or Senate this fall.
"You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about," Clinton said in an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "That's why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and or the Senate, that's when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength."
Clinton alluded to previous controversies -- like the 2000 election recount to the "swift boat" attacks against John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election to the confirmation of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh -- as evidence of what she sees as hardball tactics by Republicans.
"I remember what they did to me for 25 years -- the falsehoods, the lies, which unfortunately people believe because the Republicans have put a lot of time, money, and effort in promoting them," Clinton said. "So when you're dealing with an ideological party that is driven by the lust for power, that is funded by corporate interests who want a government that does its bidding, it's -- you can be civil, but you can't overcome what they intend to do unless you win elections."
Just in case anyone is not familiar with the word 'civility' and its antonyms (i.e what the opposite to 'civility' is:
Merriam-Webster:
civility noun
ci·vil·i·ty | \sə-ˈvi-lə-tē \
plural civilities

1 archaic : training in the humanities
Second Amendment : civilized conduct

bemoaned the decline of civility in our politics
b : a polite act or expression
lacked the little civilities and hypocrisies of political society

Re: Suspicious packages sent to Clinton, Obama, CNN
as a footnote, Rubio is spot on noting that Trump being critical of the press is not the same as a call for violence. And while you may want to argue semantics with Hillary, hers was a call to action in the context of "survival". And while this may not be a directive for mailing bombs, it shares more qualities with "call for violence" than Trump's tweet. But im sure the fake-bomb maker(s) consulted their dictionary first to ensure they had a clear understanding of what "civil" meant to Hillary.
