George H.W. Bush is dead.
There goes the last decent Republican President. Possibly for a very long time.

The CIA was drug trafficking under HW's leadership. I don't see anything decent about that.

I'm not sure why any Republican would try to please the left. The left isn't going to vote for a Republican anyway. CNN will still carry on a nonstop slander campaign against anyone with an (R) after their name. RINOs can't win primaries nor can they win general elections.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Wonder if Trump will attend the funeral? If so, I hope he does not make it about himself or detract from the funeral in any way.

Well, Trump's egotism might play out rather interestingly if he just can't bear not to be at centre stage during the funeral. There's one way he could fix that ...

Harvey Weinstein is a serial sexual offender who used a pattern of intimidation to cover that up along with a string of sexual harassment. George H.W. Bush likely groped women when he was elderly. This is a common side effect of cognitive impairment associated with aging, which may or may not have affected him. In any case, it's not appropriate to equate the two.
There isn't good evidence of CIA drug trafficking under Bush's leadership, but the man's leadership is far from having serious flaws, so it is weird that's what you decided to go with. We recently learned that he almost certainly engaged in a failed conspiracy while head of the CIA to protect Spiro Agnew. That's pretty bad. I have to grade on a curve here as every single president has quite bad things we can list attached to their legacy.
Still was a decent Republican president.

Re: George H.W. Bush is dead.
CNN does megaphone nonstop slander campaigns against Democrats by virtue of "gotta hear both sides" logic. It tends to downplay similar attempts against Republicans by virtue of "can't appear biased towards liberals" logic. The net effect of this is a pervasive right-wing bias in precisely the way you imagine occurs in reverse. Your basis for believing this probably is a mixture of lies told to you by right-wing media mixed in with awareness of CNN reporting true negative stories about Republicans.ajax18 wrote:Nomomo wrote:The CIA was drug trafficking under Harvey Weinstein's leadership. "RINO" is mostly a contentless charge. You can tell, because the last two presidential candidates prior to Trump are within what you think of as "RINO" and Donald Trump campaigned by rejecting traditional Republican positions on a host of issues (only to violate that when president, but that's another story).

What an amazing man, and what a life! He serves as a monument to stoicism, love of country, service, and family. I have nothing but the highest regard for HW Bush.
RIP.

Since the guy's name was George Herbert Walker Bush, I'd like someone to explain this no doubt side-splitting joke to me.
All this is perhaps a reference to things he is said to have done (and probably did) when he was of an age to have been at least mildly Alzheimered? I've known a good, decent man who went that way. It was unpleasant and sad at the same time. I don't think it should be a label stuck on a whole life.
