George H.W. Bush was legitimately railroaded by the liberal media. Inventing a story about shopping scanners to portray him as an out of touch wealthy elite is the classic example, but there's so many. It's not his fault, but I suspect that press over-correction from this group-think era contributes to the false balance media hellscape we now live in.
This has long drove me nuts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ffbFvKlWqE
A woman asks President Bush a question about the national debt. It's clear she's there to nail him to the wall and her message is that his wealth makes him unable to understand the plight of people harmed by poor economic circumstances. But she doesn't understand the first thing between the connection between the national debt and those economic circumstances. She probably conflated to the two because the 1992 election was heavily focused on the national debt and the 91 recession. Her argument is, essentially, that you have to experience poverty to understand proper economic policy on addressing the national debt, which is so dumb that treating her with kindness and respect makes you want to pretend she never argued that.
Bush understands what she's getting at regarding him being out of touch and points out this is unfair, which is true, then tries give a technically correct answer about how the national debt impacts the economy that in turn impacts him. Eventually, after requesting clarification, and understanding that she's really talking about economic struggle and not the debt, he tries to explain how he's capable of empathy.
After Bush crashes and burns, Clinton gets up and acts like being the governor of Akansas is the same as being the sheriff of Mayberry. The crowd eats it up.
The press killed Bush and praised Clinton for his and it drives me nuts. It drove me nuts back when I was 12. That this is the kind of thing that would drive me nuts is so unbelievably quaint by today's standards, but even just writing about it gets my blood pressure up.
George H.W. Bush is dead.

Poppy was up to his ears in Iran Contra and we're still living with the creeps who put on that show. Pardon parties degrade the Republic.
I don't share EA's views on this one. But I found Poppy to be a far better president than his son.

People with my views aren't enough in number to get the establishment kicked out of office. The left never liked much less supported them either. It's really odd to see this board of liberals and the mainstream media swooning over the man they viciously mocked and belittled before making him a one term president.
Actually, it was the split among conservatives that sunk Bush. Pat Buchanan ran against him in the primaries. The trickle-down wing were angry at him for breaking his "no new taxes" pledge. Ross Perot ran as a third party candidate and attracted mostly conservatives. Also there was a recession leading up to the election. The democrats were energized around Clinton, but Bush probably still would have won if Perot didn't run, and if his party was united to reelect him.

Are we actually praising the guy who met with the Iranians in 1980 to ensure that the hostages would be kept on ice until after the election??
A common myth. The people who voted for Perot were those who wanted change, so Bush should've been kissing Perot's ass for sparing him an even more embarrassing defeat than he actually suffered.
