Adding more detail to the OP:

A person got her DNA results back. (No, it's not me).

Her aunt and uncle are listed as:

Aunt (Second cousin) 609 cM shared

Uncle (Close relative) 1,640 cM shared

Aunt and Uncle are siblings.

What explains this?

According to this chart (assuming I am reading correctly)

The uncle at 1,640 centiMorgans (wtf) falls into Group B as uncle.

The aunt at 609 centiMorgans falls into Group C to include first cousin, half aunt, etc.

Group E includes second cousins with a range of 75 - 360 centiMorgans.

How does that even begin to correlate to the Ancestry results as stated?

On this chart (kmn):

The uncle shows as a full uncle --1349 - 2175 centiMorgans
The aunt shows as a half aunt--500-1446 centiMorgans
The aunt could show as a first cousin--553-1225 centiMorgans

The values for second cousin are FAR lower with a range of 46- 515 centiMorgans

How does the aunt (609 centiMorgans) show as a second cousin on the Ancestry results?

If the aunt is a full aunt, she should be in group B.

If the aunt is a half aunt she should show up at the very least as first cousin.

Why on earth does Ancestry show her as a second cousin?

Anyone?

Oh look, a calculator.

https://dnapainter.com/tools/sharedcmv4/611

When I enter 609, second cousin shows a probability of 1.53%.

So what exactly is up with Ancestry?

Somebody could step on my head right now and I'd be okay with it.

Any ideas as to an explanation oh teeming masses?

The Aunt and Uncle are from Iceland. Or perhaps West Virginia.

In Mexican culture "Sancho" is the "other man"...it is used in that culture like we use the term "milk man."

My siblings ( 3 that tested) in our DNA testing came back within 100 cm...as do most of my nephews and nieces, and first cousins....but never more than 200 cm. (Ancestry)

So again, it may appear that Sancho might have been in town. I am both joking and being very serious.

Lighten up.
