As long as I'm anonymous none of this can hurt me or my family. But when one wears a MAGA hat or even puts a Trump sticker on their car, there are many ways people retaliate against those who espouse political opinions with which they disagree in real life. This little experiment I've done here has shown just how little it takes to set something like that off and it's clear people like EAllusion and Kevin Graham have no problem targeting family members either.
In ways I really do believe settling issues like this with a personal combat would be easier and more effective.
I agree that there are people who will retaliate. I never put political stickers on my car, because there are always assholes who think vandalism is an appropriate response to a political statement. And if I went into a bar in certain parts of my state, I'd be inclined to keep my mouth shut regarding politics. It only takes one asshole, even if the vast majority of people aren't assholes.
But as far as your "experiment," the worst that was done was someone saying something on a message board. And that something was not a threat of any kind. It in no way can be considered putting you or your family in danger.

I mean, the comment was moderated along with several posters suggesting it wasn't in good taste/violated rules (did you somehow forget this?), yours probably would be too. Again, I'm in favor of leaving family out of this but that doesn't explain how the comment was at all threatening.

I would agree that politicians on all sides of the aisle can face some pretty nasty stuff. I don't think you have experienced anything even remotely approaching that level of vitriol here.
