according to posters above, this is not an illegal circumstance but it can only be mitigated through excessive pay raises for elected representatives....because their current salary is insufficient to maintain legal, moral, or ethical performances of their oath of office.

It's accurate to say it's legal, citizens United and wut. The phrase used to describe the raise was cost of living not excessive but you aren't interested in details. It's was said by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez so hairfire and misrepresentations are the order of the day.

For sure, forget about the notion of honesty and integrity as an insulation from corruption. I am sure if the goverment just paid everybody 140k a year, all dishonesty and corruption would cease to exist.

I remember the LDS church has a policy of not calling anyone to financial clerk unless they had an income to avoid temptation. We also know that government employees in certain sectors have more people watching them because certain groups do have interest in buying them. The world is not so binary of perfectly honest or perfectly dishonest, and there are factors that can increase or decrease that temptation. How much we make certainly looks to have a major impact on that temptation.

It's the lack not the love of money that is the root of all evil. The real reason I went to jail for stealing that campaign money is because of the systemic racism in our criminal justice system. Trump is the real one who is stealing from the taxpayer. With my $8500/month commissary in congressional disability, I wasn't tempted to steal a thing the whole time I was in jail. We've depended on these benefits for many generations now and we're entitled to them. Anyone that says otherwise is racist.

Bull. That is just nonsense. If a Senator or Congress person is going to take a bribe or act dishonestly for gain, it is because of their integrity and other dishonest attributes. A raise will not all of a sudden change their mind about being dishonest. A congressperson/senator makes around 180k a year and has a huge expense account, and a lot of days off. It is not like they live below the poverty level. They make enough for doing a very poor job. The only thing they do well, is spend our money, whether in good fashion, or in waste.

How much more do you want to give them Themis until you believe it will greatly reduce corruption? Do you really believe paying them say 40K more will stop these folks from being corrupt?

I didn't say anything about how much pay they should have, but that people are not binary and many factors go into how much a person may be tempted. Trump with all his money still has no problem being corrupt.

So what is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez talking about when she says a raise removes dark money?...why is she bringing up decreasing dark money at all in this context?
please, oh master of comprehension, give us some of your comprehending on this perplexing premise that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has so simply comprehended.

Are you pretending that this thread or the OP is about dark money, now? Because neither the thread title nor your rambling OP text mentions dark money, let alone anything about it being good, or legal, or not.

I guess that you’re left having to derail your own theads with whatever’s left from random Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweets after your initial faulty assertions have been shredded.
