Omigod. It looks like he really does think Putin's reference to 'western liberalism' referred to the US west coast:
Maybe he just chose California as an example? Let's hope so ...
But later we have this:
I can't easily think of a way that the 'principle of maximum charity' could get him out of that one. He's just hugely more ignorant of recent US history than any President has the right to be.

When asked by The New York Times about Russian president Vladimir Putin’s comments about Western liberalism being “obsolete,” Trump took that to mean literally liberals living on the west coast of the United States.
“He’s sees what’s going on, I guess, if you look at what’s happening in Los Angeles, where it’s so sad to look, and what’s happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people,” Trump told the Times.
“I don’t know what they’re thinking,” he added. “But when you look at Los Angeles, when you look at San Francisco, when you look at some of the other cities — and not a lot, not a lot — but you don’t want it to spread.”
Maybe he just chose California as an example? Let's hope so ...
But later we have this:
This was hardlyTrump’s only flub during the Saturday’s news conference. He was asked by ABC News about an exchange between former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) in Thursday’s Democratic presidential debate over busing. “Busing” refers to the practice of transporting children outside of their geographic school districts in order to help integrate schools. After the Supreme Court struck down school segregation in 1954, some black children were sent to white schools and vice-versa, in order to integrate school systems.
Trump’s made clear he thought the term “busing” meant using a bus to commute to school.
“You know, there aren’t that many ways you’re going to get people to schools. So this is something that’s been done. In some cases, it’s been done with a hammer instead of a velvet glove. And, you know, that’s part of it [….] But it is certainly a primary method of getting people to schools.”

Donald Trump is a very stupid person. Not "stupid compared against what you'd expect out of a President" stupid, but legitimately dumb. He's also a pathological BS'er. This leads to moments like this.

Oh, it gets better! After he was asked about his position on busing:
"The president also announced that his administration would be releasing a new policy related to the issue of school busing that he said would be 'very interesting' and 'very surprising,' although he did not give any details."
Good news, y'all, Trump is putting together a policy on busing to desegregate schools!

Re: Trump thinks Western Liberalism = Liberals in California
Putin's comments are an interesting escalation. He has been using the phrase "Western decadence" (well, translated from whatever it is in Russian) to describe the failings of the west. It struck me as a phrase intended to appeal to nationalists and conservatives who would be sympathetic to the idea we are overspending, worldly, immoral, and moving away from the simple foundations of a golden age where hard work, family, and God were the center of daily life.
To now refer to the more fundamental concept of Western Liberalism as being obsolete is an escalation in rhetoric on his part. I guess Trump's comment just shows Putin understands his target audience.

Your stupidity has already been incessantly proven , so why start another thread to prove it?
Your citation "literally" states that Trump "literally" translates western to exclusively mean west coast America.
Yet, after the liberal hair fire click bait headline, there is "literally" no evidence for your claim.
This quote seems to be what doltards like KG are holding up as convincing evidence for the OP claim.
“He’s sees what’s going on, I guess, if you look at what’s happening in Los Angeles, where it’s so sad to look, and what’s happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people,” Trump told the Times.
Yes, these 2 named cities and their failed liberal policies are horrible examples for an argument about "western liberalism". Clearly this means Trump thinks western liberalism is exclusive to the US west coast and the Western Hemisphere is too! No mention of Seattle, Portland, etc. Just 2 well known liberal cities in America...why he didn't add Topeka to that list escapes us, amiright?
good law your desperation smells bad.

Subbie, what is Western Liberalism? I'm curious, given the above, if you know.

Subgenius, I am afraid I have no idea what you are talking about here. You may well have had a clear idea to start with but with your enthusiasm for insults and automatic contrariness you forgot to include it I fear.

Re: Trump thinks Western Liberalism = Liberals in California
Hint: notice how subbie uses liberalism as synonymous with liberal? And then gets hung up on where on the map Trump could have meant as being in the west besides just California? Subbies attempt to put KG in his place and defend Trump was the worst kind of own goal. Not only did he kick it back into his own net, he did it while showboating and mocking an opponent demonstrating the thing being mocked.

Honorentheos, I think you have made a very probable estimate.
This reminds me of a puzzle for those enthusiasts for the belief that liberal political policy created Los Angeles homeless problem. Why do not all those poor folks escape to Missouri or at least Utah?
