This is our new reality. It's a fundamentally semi-literate, almost stream of consciousness meme producing recursivity where conversation isn't, in my opinion, the underpinned emphasis, but rather, again in my opinion, it's theater. Sheer unadulterated theater. And that's how hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of young people are transmitting ideas from one to the other.
I think this is why Trump is so successful with this crowd (and conversely why antifa/Leftists who post on these forums) because he doesn't communicate like an adult, but rather he communicates like a meme. He's good at transmitting ideas through theater where logic, pragmatism, and structure mean next to nothing, and idea-generating, quick-punch statements, and imagery is used with incredible effectiveness.
I think this is going to be the challenge for us moving forward. How do we adapt to how people communicate on the Internet, across social media, and through forums that encourage theater rather than dialogue?

I read the thread at the link. It's the first time I've ever laid eyes on 8chan. It's reflective of some of the comments sections I read on Facebook news pages.
What can we do about this? How can it be policed? Surely we cannot accept the dark corners of the Internet as a 1A right. Can't this be classified as hate speech? A terrorist meeting place?
What can Silicon Valley do about this?
I read on that very thread that 8chan or 4 chan, was banned in Oz. Why can't we do it? Yes, of course those of this ilk will continue to communicate with each other however, wouldn't it reduce the ability to communicate and influence en masse?

I think so. The 1st Amendment is so fundamental and so necessary to our Republic that banning sites that host speech with which we disagree is a pretty serious slippery slope. I think if we did that, it'd be about 25-30 years before before we'd understand how big of a mistake it was, but it'd be impossible to reverse.
And I suppose that's how the 2nd Amendment types feel about guns.

This Chicago mass shooting isn't even in the headlines on the front page of their website.

If we are talking about the same shooting it was not really a mass shooting in the same context of El Paso. It was more of a intercity gun battle with both parties shooting at each other with multiple weapons. It was most likely gang related.

A 21-year-old man was hit in the groin and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. A woman, 25, was struck in the arm, leg and taken to the same hospital where her condition was stabilized
Another woman, 22, was also hit and taken to Mount Sinai, police said. Her condition was stabilized.
A 20-year-old man and a woman, 19, were taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. The man was hit in the right side of the body and the woman was struck in the leg. Their conditions were stabilized.
Two men, 23 and 21, took themselves to Mount Sinai with gunshot wounds, police said.
People were seen walking in the park just past the perimeter of the crime scene tape with their phone lights activated looking for things they left behind as they ran from the bullets.
Please tell me how that's what you described. Whatever the case may be, THAT is a mass shooting.

Of the 17 mass shootings this year 51 people have died...yet in Chicago alone 293 have been killed...too me that is how I calculate it and square it up.

How are we ok with this as a body politic? FORTY wounded over the weekend in just one city. Everyone who shoots at a bunch of people, whether it's white supremacism, black gangsterism, or some for of terrorism has their motivation, but I can't see how we're not actively outlawing the one intentional thing in common, which are firearms. It's nuts. This is not ok, and not something our founding fathers would have foreseen.
