Re: High Diabetes and Poverty Why?
In 2017, the federal poverty level (FPL) for an individual was set at $16,040 and $32,718 for a family of four. However, in Colorado, the income needed to meet basic needs exceeds the federal poverty level in every county—so a lot of people are doing without necessities.Mar 8, 2018

Pray tell, what makes you suspect this?

While different looking, these archaic humans apparently could breed with modern humans based on our genetic findings, so how are they a different species?

Did this comment make you think this? What exactly sounded so uneducated to you?
That you don't know that two species can sometimes interbreed to create hybrids. It's eighth grade science.

Reading about it.

And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Until the Neanderthal genome was mapped, most in the anthropological community were very skeptical that Neanderthals and homosapiens could breed to create viable offspring. When we learned that more than likely they had, y chromosome aging analysis started to give us reasons to think that subSaharan Africans while having no Neanderthal DNA probably had contributions from other unknown archaic human species. Maybe it's my age but when I was in eighth grade the definition of different species was that the individuals from different species could not mate to create viable offspring. Perhaps your eighth grade was far more advanced than mine. I've found Svante Paabo's work astonishing.

The classic population genetics / Ernst Mayr definition of a species is an isolated, naturally interbreeding population of organisms where the progeny are also viable at reproduction.
Ajax forgot the last part I think. For my two cents, I will point out this is one of a few ways of looking at the concept of species and is best suited to some forms of reproduction over others.
Whether Neanderthals are a distinct species or a subspecies of us is an area of debate as far as I know.

Would you say answering this question is above 8th grade science?

Or perhaps it's the lingering effects of a creationist worldview on public school education.
Thanks for answering.

It might be. The possibility of hybridization between different species, however, is not.
