Pop me up a scripture ref, buddy.
Mark 16:17-18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. The Old Testament has fire resistance abilities for some believers as I recall. Book of Daniel, the trio of guys with the names like Me-shack, Ne-shack and Abednego or something like that. And Acts has the ability to resist physical damage from a falling building when the Lord drops a prison down to let Apostles out on a couple of occasions as I recall. Just wondering how consistent the fire resistance was. Have you found any evidence it comes with being born again? or Ceebs? Just doing some research for the game of MDB Bible Study.
Oh yeah. I know what you're talking about now. I haven't ever given it much thought really. I suppose it's about God's protection and while I do believe in that, I don't particularly see a need to go handling snakes or walking through fire and that sort of thing.
So in my own life, I would say that God does have the ability to protect me from danger and provide for me in some dangerous circumstance I might encounter. (I want to say more about that, but I want to mull it over what I want to share here.) And when I say danger, I'm actually thinking in terms of both physical and spiritual danger.
In any case, if someone really were to tie me to a stake and set me on fire, I suppose what I'd expect is that it'd hurt like hell until my nerve endings got fried, I'd eventually die, go to Jesus and if there really is no afterlife, I wouldn't go anywhere at all and I wouldn't know the difference.
Plus there's the whole thing in 1 Corinthians about the above gifts falling away...but I don't think that's supposed to happen until the Second Coming...I could be wrong about that.
Does that help anything?
