It is interesting that Australia's laid life is the same. Yesterday I went to a beach area where families of all races were barbecuing meat on a public plate cleaning it afterwards for the next person some in the water playing and others feeding the pelicans. Saw no one carrying a gun. No public drunkenness. There are obviously things that could be improved.

Why French women don't get fat They eat smaller amounts of good food a number of times doing the day.

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... features11

"Nutritionist Dr Francoise L'Hermite believes that the French secret is to sit down with friends or family for a meal, and to eat three times a day at regular intervals. She points out that the French don't eat in front of the television, and they eat slowly, enjoying both the food and the company. How very civilised.

'For France, a meal is a very particular moment, in which you share pleasure, the food as well as the conversation,' says L'Hermite. 'From an Anglo-Saxon point of view, food is just fuel to give energy to your muscles. If you have no pleasure in it, you are breaking all the rules of eating.'"

This literally happens every day in America in hundreds, if not thousands, of places.

Well said, subgenius.

from the article attempting to describe America:
,,,,,,,,,,
"You’re (just) a Mexican worker? You’re no good to me, goodbye. You’re a twenty something white “CEO”? Here’s my card…call me! We can only relate to each other as producer and consumers — or as competitors, as predator and prey. We’ve internalized relating to one another mostly as economic entities, or as objects and subjects of power. We are always trying to establish vertical social relations — me above you, not me beside you — but Europeans establish horizontal ones, to put it technically. But happiness comes from the latter, not the former."
..............
This author starts describing America as a general atmosphere combining bitter depression and black nihilism. This is a nonsense description. It does perhaps relate to the authors mood. It hardly describes the country I live in even with the current president .

From there he connects this terrible condition to capitalism following clichéd neoMarxist tropes from the mid 1960s as in my quoted piece.

I am left wing enough to be familiar with these arguments. They have a partial truth and a partial lie.

Here in America, we play in the water while we feed the pelicans.

There are obviously things that could be improved.

You could start by slow cooking ribs/chicken/chops layered with several flavors instead of "throwing meat on a public plate."

Ceeboo, Throwing meat on a public plate is a custom I am not familiar with. As you point out there are happily alternatives.

I also as an American fallow the custom of having little or no conversation on elevators. This has not resulted in any serious impediment to relating to neighbors however.

In the last few weeks I visited Dinosaur National Monument, hiked to the top of BYU’s ‘the Y’, visited Pando, hiked around and stargazed in Capitol Reef National Park, and summited a peak along the Wasatch front.

Sadly no one was drunk nor anyone was carrying a gun. I even had lunch in a public park where people utilized the trash bins diligently.

That must be devastating for you to read, Aussieguy.
