I'm pretty sure the thread would best be recognized as Jesus propaganda rather than Bible study.

First, it wasn't a "desire to help," it was just an announcement that I would be contemplating a "you" that thinks more like me. And it has no more to do with Bible study than your announcement that you would be praying that I would believe more like you. Why announce something like that at all? I never understood the pharasitic attraction of throwing open the windows to pray.

Oh. I misunderstood.
And it has no more to do with Bible study than your announcement that you would be praying that I would believe more like you.

That wasn't my prayer.
Why announce something like that at all?

Perhaps I should not have.

Or you could send me some money as a true measure of your self-affliction. Or better yet you could actually engage Honor in good faith.

Who says that people who say they will pray for or those who do pray for others in private aren't doing anything, Cam?

Okay, I may be a bit foggy here, but you know--detox. So what. I've been mentally ill before and compared to that, I'm just foggy. I'll live from it.

When our family was hit by a violent suicide, PTSD, and follow on suicide attempt eight years ago, you can bet I was praying and doing so the entire time and did so for years. Praying doesn't mean you are doing nothing for a person or doing nothing to help yourself.

I alternately prayed and swore at God for a good 5 years. I prayed that I wouldn't miss anything, that I would remain alert because someone chose to put a bullet through their head and essentially put a bullet through my entire family, one person in particular. I prayed constantly for the preservation of that person's life and mind. When I witnessed a potential suicide attempt happening right before my eyes, I was perhaps 15 minutes confused and then I acted. Praying the entire time.

I was right about the suicide attempt. I have the letter (found two days later) to prove it. Addressed to me. Try that some time. It'll stick a knife right through your heart.

I put an overnight bag in the back of my car that was used repeatedly. I shopped, I prepared meals, I went to more therapy appointments than I can count, I hovered during medications shifts, I stayed whole weekends during hospital stays, I did pet sitting and apartment sitting, I drove to admissions voluntary and involuntary.

I never once sat on my ass and simply prayed. I prayed and acted.

I could go on but you get the idea. My life has been filled with many instances of prayer combined with action. I can't think of too many times where I've prayed for someone and haven't tried to lend practical help at the same time--even on these boards using the keyboard under my fingers. Or spent long hours in conversation over the phone with folks in pain.

I don't make it a habit of mocking how others experience the world here on the boards or in real life. I believe that everyone's experience holds value to myself and to the person involved. I seem to be able to move between "camps" if you will, quite effortlessly both here and in real life.

I accept that we're all on a journey. That we each approach life in differing ways.

I hope that you, who has tons of life experience with people from all walks, could bring yourself to do the same with some amount of respect for the journey of others or if it's just not your thing...pass on it like I do with sports related threads. No offense to the sports fans here, it just doesn't have anything to do with me at all so go team!

If not, that's no skin off my nose. You and I have had exchanges about faith. I hope that you met me with sincerity and weren't being fake. If you were being fake, then again, that's no skin off my nose.

Back to detoxing in at-home rehab for me!

Yes, she's detoxing. Yes, she's a bit mental at the moment and guess what?

She don't care. She's human.

Oh, I think there’s a big difference between what you did and what Ceeboo is doing. Your faith aided you in a time of turmoil. Ceeboo has knowingly opened up his own personal Jesus Camp to a board known for honest, direct, raucous discussion on the Paradise forum. Remember, the board is divvied up precisely for this kind of thing. I don’t think I’d host an AA meeting at a bar during happy hour, if you know what I mean.

Anyway. Since he’s just testifying and keepin’ it casual, I don’t see the problem with banter.

Jersey Girl, I did not repeat all of your words in that post but I believe every one of them rang true. Thank you for those Christian basics.

Faith without works is dead. Recall it?

The theme of James 2 isn't it? It's impressive how anyone can extract one single aspect of the Christian faith and wave it around in order to trivialize that one aspect or well intended gesture, while ignoring the rest.

Sheesh. I'm starting to think that we really did need a bit of a Bible Study thread around here. A little refresher never hurt anyone I suppose.
