On the Mormon D&D board, Calmoriah issued a CFR to the claim that the Joseph Smith Papers are an official publication of the Church. Is this an exercise in reflex apologetics or is there some other rationale as to why she doubts the Joseph Smith Papers are published by the Church?

Would the Interpreter imprimatur make it more authentic?

The interpreter is a joke. How's the witnesses film coming along? Are the Dales or Dr. Gee involved? If they are, maybe reconsider before it's too late?

So another (6EQUJ5) poster correctly noted that church official publications have been put forth as doctrine. Calm isn't questioning whether or not the JSPP are an official publication of the Church, they clearly are. What she is questioning is, if the JSPP was intended to qualify as doctrine.

Here is the quote that Calm is questioning.

6EQUJ5 @ MAD wrote:What an unfortunate essay from the otherwise faithful Jeff Lindsay.
The JSP are an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As such, they are to be considered authoritative statements on history and doctrine. It troubles me to see Jeff so willingly criticize works that were published under the auspices of the First Presidency. Simply because the official Church position doesn't match a personal view, does not give one license to openly criticize official works of the Church.
I'm very disappointed to see this.

Putting the brethren above criticism is precisely the entire anchor of all the problems the church has in the very first place. It is what elevates into almost leadership worship. I was reading in Boyd K. Packer's book the other night, That All May Be Edified, where he says that he gets to obey the church leaders, it isn't something he has to do drudgingly. It's not I have to obey, but I get to obey others whee! Well, I also get to obey... my conscience. I am free to do so and I therefore choose to do so since it is my conscience that I know best as to whether what I feel is right or wrong, good and bad. It is my conscience that I alone can understand my experiences with in this, my body. So I am exactly free to obey also, obey my own conscience.
