I've known Professor Midgley since shortly after I arrived on campus at BYU as a member of the faculty -- which means for roughly 35 years.

I knew his late wife well.

I've traveled with him. I stayed with them and I traveled with them in New Zealand.

You speak offensively, personally, wrongly, and insultingly of what you don't know.

This sort of thing is, I realize, well received elsewhere. And personally attacking Professor Midgley is, I know, very much in vogue elsewhere. It isn't well received here.

As I'd been saying. President Nelson's credibility as a prophet and seer is found in his credentials as a real doctor, and having traveled abroad even more places than Midgley has. Folks, you can't make this stuff up.

Well, not true, because midgley argued exactly that. But midgley takes the hint and recants his “fact.” Sort of. The grammar is a little weird. Maybe someone helped:

So Peterson clearly makes an effort to rein in Midgley, but it’s got to be exhausting. When midgley made his obnoxious remark about the role of the female in his marriage, Peterson’s support was an enraged insistence that... he KNEW midgley’s wife. He also TRAVELED with them. And therefore...

Well, that’s it. No acceptance of what midgley said, just a tacit acknowledgement that midgley is allowed to behave inappropriately on his blog in ways he would not allow others to do. He at least had the grace to not support what midgley said because it was inexcusably offensive. He did get enraged that a lesser commenter (i.e. not of his religion) noticed midgley’s bad behavior, though. ENRAGED. (Not quite enough to delete the misogyny, however.)

Man, for all the whining you guys do about the rudeness of "the fake doctors," you sure are inhospitable, surly and rude. I've been polite and gracious since I got here. I don't know what I expected coming here, but you guys are breathtakingly immature.

For crying out loud, your friend just randomly and without provocation told me to beat it, a day after I'd finished participating. Is your tribalism instinct here really that strong? As I noted, you replied to the first substantive comment on this post with a snide insult. And then ironically accused that person of only being able to provide snide comments, despite the fact he's the only one between you two who tried to address the actual blog topic. And it wasn't even the only time you did this on this thread. Frankly, I think you enjoy the petty drama. In my two days of participation, I notice it's the only subject that consistently elicits a response from you.

Also, you can't pretend to be above it all while at the same time encouraging your worst behaved allies. We can see you liking the worst comments from Midgley and Kiwi. How on earth you aren't mortified by kiwi is beyond me.

I just don't find that believable: there have been too many corroborating accounts to think the DCP is telling the truth on this one. It may be that he's equivocating--i.e., he blows his lid and hits the "Ban" button, but then it doesn't fully work, and so he justifies it to himself by saying, "Well, it doesn't matter if I *meant* to ban them if it didn't actually wind up happening."

Already, silence about it has earned $2000 for worthy causes, and there is a solid chance of $10,000 more.

There are definitely some questions that need to be asked here about the "spirit of the law" versus the "letter of the law." Bear in mind that, in its entire existence, "Sic et Non" has never--not once--provided a link to MormonDiscussions.com, nor have they ever even named the board, often leaving many readers in the dark. I sense that Dr. Moore's generosity is extensive, but I wonder at what point he's going to pull the plug. I wonder what it would take. Louis Midgley has been absolutely cruel and awful over there lately. I wonder why Peterson continues to allow it. Maybe he thinks $10,000 is something to sneeze at?
