Barr asks Foreign Gov's about CIA

Post by _moksha »

Criminal Attorney General William P. Barr has held private meetings overseas with foreign intelligence officials seeking their help in a Justice Department inquiry that President Trump hopes will discredit U.S. intelligence agencies’ examination of possible connections between Russia and members of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the matter.

Barr’s personal involvement is likely to stoke further criticism from Democrats pursuing impeachment that he is helping the Trump administration use executive branch powers to augment investigations aimed primarily at the president’s adversaries.

But the high level Justice Department focus on intelligence operatives’ conduct will likely cheer Trump and other conservatives for whom “investigate the investigators” has become a rallying cry. Barr has voiced his own concerns, telling lawmakers in April that he believed “spying did occur” when it came to the U.S. investigation of the Trump campaign.

It all looks more and more like treason on the part of both Trump and Barr. How can they be so obtuse as to not realize that their apparently deliberate attempts to discredit and undermine our own intelligence agencies looks, or will look that way to the majority of U.S. citizens?
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

You don't think the CIA and the FBI are above questioning, do you? Do you think it's possible that some in these agencies can make mistakes or become corrupt? Russiagate turned out to be a lot less than advertised and it's clear the unsubstantiated dossier was used to gain fisa warrants in the FBI's crossfire hurricane investigation of the Trump campaign in 2016. Also, if you remember, 17 intelligence agencies supposedly said there was russian collusion back in Jan 2017, without showing the public any evidence. That turned out to not be so. Obviously, mistakes were made. Shouldn't those mistakes be investigated, just like the russiagate allegations?

Exiled,
I am old enough to remember fear concerning a right wing political operative heading the FBI so I do not think that those agencies should be above question.

But I do not remember them reporting collusion for the current administration. I remember them reporting the Russians worked to influence the election in Trump's favor. Meulller report agreed. What mistake do you think should be investigated. I think there were news commentators getting overworked about the possiblity of collusion, do you wish to investigate them?

Huckleberry:

I'm commenting on the false proposition that merely investigating police or the fbi or intelligence agencies is somehow out of bounds because supposedly people may lose confidence in authority. Clearly that is wrong. No one or no agency is above questioning. Also, if you look at my comment, I was talking about the failed effort to find russian collusion and the fisa abuses. Those should be investigated. We shouldn't want someone like Trump or some future President to use the FBI/Intelligence agencies to go after a political opponent. So, just like we should proceed with the Ukraine investigation, we should proceed with the Barr investigation. Let's find out the truth. Perhaps we are dealing with corruption all around.

Don’t gaslight me, bro. The claim in 2017 by the intelligence agencies was Russian interference, not collusion. The Mueller report documented that interference. It was exactly as advertised.

The FBI had evidence of potential collusion between members of the Trump campaign and Russia with regard to that interference. It did exactly what it was supposed to do: an investigation. That investigation became the Mueller investigation. No one involved in that investigation ever “advertised” anything about the investigation, let alone about collusion. They investigated and they reported.

There is no evidence of any mistakes by the intelligence agencies other than the fever dreams of conspiracy theorists. Trump’s phone call with the Ukraine president is part of a broader effort to manufacture evidence to support Trump’s re-election. Sure, intelligence agencies can make mistakes or act improperly. But sending Rudy Giuliani to chase after bizarre conspiracy theories is not the way to investigate anything. Neither is coercing other countries into making up evidence.

If you want to see a real live actual conspiracy, just open your eyes and look at Trump, Barr, Giuliani, and Pompeo.

Don't gaslight me bro???? Mueller based his conclusions on a redacted report from crowdstrike, a firm hired by the DNC, regarding the email theft. He never gained possession of the actual server to do a proper investigation and he didn't bother to interview Assange (who denied that any state actor provided him with the emails). I think it is far from proven. The mueller report is merely like an indictment and as you know, sometimes prosecutors can't get convictions on their indictments.

The dossier turned out to be opposition research, that Ohr warned the FBI about in 2016, during the campaign. This fact was conspicuously left out of the fisa warrant application. Looks like someone may have jumped the gun and possibly for political reasons. https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/425739-fisa-shocker-doj-official-warned-steele-dossier-was-connected-to-clinton

Sure, investigate Trump but let's see how russiagate evolved as well. We are talking about politics and all sides use dirty tricks. Trump is a buffoon and asking the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden was highly questionable. However, getting the fisa warrant in 2016 was also highly questionable and it started an investigation into a political opponent based on paid for opposition research.

I believe an exiled Russian on this sight is trying to get back into the motherland's good graces.

It would be funny were it not sad.

It seems most agree that the Russian's interfered with the election in favor of Trump, but not whether Trump colluded with Russia. Most seem to agree if Trump colluded with Russia this would be really bad and should be impeached. Trump's actions with Ukraine are Trump trying to get the Ukraine to collude with Trump to interfere and influence the next election in Trump's favor.
