So we have another dishonest Trump supporter on the board now. Awesome.

"dishonest Trump supporter..." Redundant.

It seems to me this thread is a cautionary tale against shielding your kids from the world. They'll grow up to make stupid decisions like voting for a deranged psychopath out of irrational fear, or worse, call themselves Republican.

Please point me to where in this link Wiemar Republic Germany gave pedophiles free reign in society. I'll be waiting (forever). Or did you not understand my point about how people upset about tolerance of homosexuality in public would be claimed as that?

Or are you just saying that Nazis and conservative Christian allies, past and present, like to attribute any sexual permissiveness in general outside of their narrowly defined mores as tolerance of the worst examples they can think of in order to justify their behavior? Like conflating drag queens in general with pedophiles? Because, yeah, that seems about right. But you wouldn't know anything about doing that, right? Nazis are bad people, and the solution isn't to surrender to their demands but to oppose them.

Boy, Smokey is going to blow his mind when he discovers Nazis crossdressing was a favorite pastime of theirs:

by the way, where did I learn of that? You damned guessed it.

Social conservatives have a weird relationship with cross-dressing. There's an "all in good fun" type they find humorous where the point often is to mock the idea of a man pretending to be a woman. It mines its humor from the humiliating position of a man having to be a woman or to poke fun at "how women are." Then there's the type of cross-dressing that they loath where they're suspicious homosexuality is afoot and the men actually like being the "woman."

There's of course hardcore social conservatives who hate it all, but I think we all have encountered the type who walks this line.

Really? There's a boatload of people who find Some Like it Hot type stuff perfectly fine but are appalled by Ru Paul. I haven't seen a study on this or anything, but my first guess would be that this is the norm for American social conservatives.

EA,

I think Bosom Buddies might’ve worked better for this GenX’er. I had to google your reference. Heh.

That said, back in the day I was moved by To Wong Foo and Priscilla QotD; I felt they humanized a niche subculture. In fact, my wife and I attended a special screening of TWFTFE not long ago. And while I get in bro culture ‘gay chicken’ is a weirdly funny thing, I actually think Nazi crossdressers is one of the most confusing and bizarre manifestations of latent or low down homosexuality. I read somewhere that more than a few senior Nazi officials were known homosexuals, but I don’t feel like running down the source right now.

By sheer statistical odds, I'd venture that some senior Nazi officials were closeted gays or bisexuals. Only a few are known, though. Ernest Rohm is the most prominent and things didn't turn out too well for him. That said, there's a whole mindfuck conservative Christian attack on gays arguing that the evils of Naziism were the result of and/or significantly exacerbated by homosexuality. The pseudoscholarship involved in that argument, as you might guess, makes dubious assertions about homosexuality among senior Nazi officials. Try not to get snookered by that.

Pahoran, lovely person that he is, is a fan of that work if I recall.
