The issue isn't discussion. It's images. And I agree with chap's suggestion that they belong in the spirit prison forum.

Chap is only suggesting images that aren’t overly complimentary of Jews, for which a disproportionate amount are anti-Mormons, be banned on an Ex-Mormon message board that once touted itself as the safe harbor of free speech and a refuge for those unjustly censored by the MAD board.

What is on topic is that this ironically titled thread ended up illustrating why free speech as a right does not exists in democracies, and today on Thanksgiving I am thankful that America is a Republic.

I agree with the others. The images are a real problem. While I don't think the perp will stick around long enough to be a concern, you might get our site flagged as a hate site if he proves me wrong.

I could potentially be sympathetic to the images as free speech under certain conditions that aren't presently being met. First, for some of the images, neither the author of the image nor the party posting the images here actually believes in what the images portray, and wouldn't (and has not!!!) waste (ed) five sentences even pretending to defend the content of the images. Thus, given (some of) the images are over-the-top racist and violence oriented, without any corresponding commentary (note that "some of" captures two conditions), and given this is an ideas-related board, the images should not be allowed.

Appealing directly to your own code of conduct: if a mere link to any mundane article out there without an explanation is against the rules of the board, how much more so is a highly racist and offensive image posted as an "image and run" with no corresponding commentary, or perhaps with bare minimum commentary that isn't fully comprehensible?

The appeal to free speech can't rationally be made absent any context whatsoever. In California, prostitution in certain conditions has been justified under "free speech" and the same goes elsewhere for pornography. But just because in certain contexts, the outskirts of consensual sexuality are justified by free speech as a part of national tolerance, that doesn't mean overt sexual material is a good fit for this board. Likewise, random racist images also are not a good fit for this board, even less so, even if we may allow for it under free speech as a nation at other venues such as 4chan.

You don't even like emoticons. Think about it: some of these huge images that make it hard to scroll through the thread and are liable to put the site on hate-watch are being used as giant "frownies".

If our resident NS perp were to drastically slow down on the image content, and along with the image, post comprehensible material that made sense of the image, I might be persuaded to allow some of it on account that this is a board open to all ideas, even ideas that are reprehensible. But very little idea content that explains the giant frownies is being had at this point.

Even 4chan douses free speech that doesn't fit with its culture, as anybody would know who has viewed that one documentary about 4chan on youtube.

Imagine being so triggered by being named you write this much text on Thanksgiving petitioning a message board that comments negatively on Mormons to ban negative comments about Jews.
