For a Jew, criticism of his ancestors is “far more vulgar” than swear words.
Discussing historical events and Biblical timelines is “profane communication”.
This type of religious criticism, and not any other, is deserving of censorship.
Unbelievable.
Just to clarify, is smo speaking generally here, or is he Jewish himself?
He’s responding to his own strawman version of EA’s post.

Certain people are having a really hard time grasping that a person citing Nephi referring to the Brass Plates as the Bible, and also as the word of the Jew, does not imply the person citing Nephi is claiming that Nephi himself was a Jew. In Mormon theology, The Book of Mormon is "The stick of Joseph" and the Bible is "The stick of Judah" -- or the Brass plates, or the word of the Jew, "and they shall be one in mine hand."
Nephi's reference was cited as an objection to the point made by a certain lunartic holocaust denier that the Old Testament doesn't really have anything to do with the Jews, and that all of this is a standard fare for people who are Mormons and familiar with the work of Jack Welch.

Good idea. I appreciate EA doing so.
EAllusion wrote:Regarding censorship, Smokey is a good illustration of the limits of Shades' approach that is based on societal standards derived from MPAA ratings. What Smokey is posting is far more vulgar and offensive than swear words, but there isn't as clear guidelines on how to deal with offensive ideas so much as a small list of profane words. The idea of the board is that ideas can't be censored due to being offensive, in no small part because it is a reaction to religious fundamentalists who deal with criticism by trying to censor it as offensive. At the end of the day, there's no neat line between different types of profane communication.
Part of Shades' approach derives from keeping certain forums safe for work browsing. That's one reason why straight up porn has to be kept off even if it sometimes is difficult to determine what counts as pornographic. Some of Smokey's anti-Semitic memes clearly fall within the bounds of something you could get in trouble for if caught browsing it at work just as surely and quickly as depictions of nudity.
Regarding moving his comments, I think Gad is correct that it's a little of dancing with the devil in that if too high a % of the content is what Smokey posts, you're risking getting censored at a level beyond your control.
It makes for an interesting example in our own online community.
One thing that differentiates Smokey from the rest of the community is he seems to have no interest in it other than to be disruptive or even see it implode if not be fundamentally damaged by his participation. He exploits arguments defending speech, not out of a shared sense of value of the truth that requires defending the right to speech, but instead as a means of interfering with the normal board activity.
Personally, I think it shows there should be a consideration of motive and intention that sits above the concept of harm. While one needs to consider if what Smokey does is harmful, to whom and to what degree, the questions of "to what end?" and "what would be lost if drastic action is taken?" deserves to follow those concerns.

Certain people are having a hard time understanding which member of the tribe of Judah supposedly settled North America in 600 A.D.
Please be clear: which member of the tribe of Judah do you claim the Book of Mormon claims is a settler of North America?

According to the Book of Mormon, at least Mulek and his people were of Judah. And Jesus arriving is the main event of the book. Can't get much more Jewish than Jesus.

1) You shouldn't conflate the posts of multiple people as a single position and stubbornly repeat yourself as if expecting we'll read your mind. I take it that we all agree that the Bible is the word of the Jew, just like Nephi said, and without the word of the Jew, that an entire nation would have "perished in unbelief". My point, which it appears you've conceded, was that you were wrong to say the Old Testament had nothing to do with the Jews, a point that the Book of Mormon rejects, and that Jack Welch also rejects.
2) Apparently, you are stubbornly quoting me, but responding to a point Canpakes made about the Americas settled by Jews. That was his point and his alone, not mine, and completely separate from the point I was making about the Bible as the word of the Jew.
However, since you can't let it go, he's essentially correct, given that there was no national identity of Joseph or Ephraim and Nephi and Lehi lived in Jerusalem as Jews, independent of what their patriarchal blessings may have said. In fact, Jack Welch even defended Nephi's beheading of Laban under Jewish law at the time.
It must really chap your hide to know that if Jack Welch were here posting on this forum, that he would be agreeing with me against you, and not agreeing with you against me.

All Jews are Israelites. Not all Israelites are Jews. Lehi’s genealogy is important, despite your unreliable say so, and because Jews are descendants of the tribe of Judah Lehi cannot in any universe be called a Jew. This is basic, Children’s Bible stuff here.

Of course he did, Laban was a citizen in Jerusalem.
For behold, Laban hath the record of the Jewsandalso a genealogy of my forefathers, and they are engraven upon plates of brass.
