This feels very high school debate club contrarian and I can never tell how committed people are to this. The second is that insulating Senators from popular vote makes them less likely to vote for increasing spending to give constituents a reason to vote for them. That’s the Koch interest. It’s not about a desire to have a Republican government takeover, though I am sure some people have noticed that would be the effect and like it for that reason.

All I know is if the KBs want to repeal the 17th amendment, it ain’t because they want you and I to have any control over what they and their like-minded ilk want to do. They strike me as a sort of Ayn Randian dystopian dream coming true. And if they can take control of the Republican party who will then instate their platform it’s absolutely about having a Republican takeover of the government because who else will work against leftist Liberal values?

I know you think I am a commie or something, but I roll in the libertarian circles where the Kochs have influence and this idea gets thrown about from the more radical types. I was just doing my best to explain the thinking.

I think you finally copped to being a leftist libertarian, no? Or are you just the equivalent of a centrist libertarian where you pick and choose issues and policies that would put you there?

No, I am not anything like an anarcho-syndicalist. Left-libertarianism is a term, mostly used in a European context, to refer to politics akin to Chomsky’s. This bears no relationship to what I think. What you think I “admitted to” was me trying to explain what has been called bleeding heart libertarianism which you conflated with this.

What this post is like is hearing someone say the support Western liberalism and walking away thinking they’ve finally admitted to being a socialist.

Well, here's your opportunity EA. What are you, exactly, politically speaking?

eta: You're not actually an ANCAP are you?

A libertarian. A ordinary libertarian. There's no list to check, but it's not hard to classify me if you are familiar with libertarians.

Here are two people I follow on Twitter who have the exact same view as me on almost every subject almost all the time:

https://Twitter.com/radleybalko?ref_src ... r%5Eauthor

https://Twitter.com/normative?ref_src=t ... r%5Eauthor

Both are associated with CATO and Reason Mag. Read them for a couple weeks I guess?

No, I am not an anarcho-capitalist. And outside of David Friedman, every last anarcho-capitalist I've encountered is sophomoric, a nut, or both. I'm aware that libertarianism attracts kooks by the bushel and it can be unproductive to associate with the label. On the other hand, screw them, the label is accurate.

EA, I'll give it a good faith effort to read through their Twitter feeds in order to understand your politics.

I'll just note that the 18 Republicans-led lawsuit in the 5th federal court that just struck down the mandate that Americans must have health insurance because it's 'unconstitutional' is exactly what I'm getting at. This will make its way to the Supreme Court, and we'll see if the KB's strategy to chip away at policies that don't align with their platform is successful.
