First of all, I think libertarian would be the ideal form of government, if men were better than they are. Do the right thing, not because there are rules.
But this is the problem I don't see around: As more and more human beings populate the planet, their individual choices of freedom began to have a greater and greater impact on the planet. A little example from our current times: LED vs. Incandescent bulbs. Maybe the individual consumer wants an incandescent bulb because they are cheaper, but as more and more people inhabit the planet, that decision has more and more negative impact.
So how does a libertarian society feel about smog devices, unleaded gasoline, and LED light bulbs?

Because this is the natural position of man? or because the "right thing" is inherent and undeniable sans rules?

While I would love to believe that mankind is capable of behaving this way, at the present time I think that the more human beings inhabit the planet, there are increasingly situations where the public good and individual freedom are at odds.

Interesting, but it seems that individual freedom is synonymous to the public good. But i guess my inquiry is pointed more to an idea cor how one arrives at "good" in your scenario upthread. There is an obvious inference in your statement that "good" is a universal and absolute condition which every person comes to know regardless of the "system" they were exposed to in a developmental sense. But if you believe that, then....
