At this time I feel the only field of focus should be finding the Democrat. candidate that has the best shot at dethroning the Don. In my opinion, Pete, should take a seat, (this time.) Every vote may wind up important and there are a whole lot of undecided-s who will be decidedly against Pete's same sex sexual attraction lifestyle affiliation thing homosexuality.
I say Joe B. picks an attractive 50 year old moderate republican female for a co-host. That would be a sure win.
In 2018, we saw a range of candidates do well for Democrats when they took the House and made a bad situation in the Senate turn out not so bad. Arizona elected a female bi-sexual non-religious ex-Mormon as Senator. So who knows what people will support? Probably best not to try and tell voters what to think, in my opinion.
Personally, along those lines I think the Democrats would be wise to take the top two finishers coming into the convention as a nod to democracy, and to create at least some resemblance of fairness if they hope to keep the party united against Trump. If they do that, they don't need to worry about how many anti-LGBT bigots won't vote for a potential Mayor Pete as President or support him as VP. Those states where those voters matter are probably irrelevant to the election anyway. But keeping the race fair, showing that the primary voters were respected and the super delegates didn't appear to steal the race away from a progressive to give it to a moderate would probably be the most winning strategy. in my opinion of course. I think a brokered convention could turn into a firestorm of destruction if mishandled, or it could unite the party if handled well. But there is a ton of risk going into it this year.
I think the most likely result of your suggestion is Milwaukee would be burned to the ground.

The fact that both Sanders and Biden seem to do better than average in the demographics Wisconsin is heavy in is a hint that this isn't about how moderate or not a candidate is. It's that both exude old white man energy, and this plays a little better for Wisconsin's demographics. They are polar opposites in ideology within the Democratic primary. If it were about ideology, you'd expect to see those numbers to look a little different.
Something that can be hard to get your head around when following politics closely is that swing voters are largely uninformed, cross-pressured people who flip on reasons that don't make a lot of sense from the perspective of someone with a more coherent understanding of politics. I mean, if you're undecided about Trump's reelection at this point, something is wrong with you. Because of this, predicting that they'll respond to rational ideological incentives is a dangerous game. It's not that they can't be persuaded, but what might persuade them might not be intuitive from your own conception of politics.

The white portion of those voters are already fervent Trump supporters. The religious haters among black and Latino voters might possibly lay their dislike of the evil Trump aside and vote against the honest gay.
Well, I'm in Maui for a week so, I feel safe enough saying what some on here might consider ill-informed, naïve ... stupid things, cause I'm in Maui. And your not.
Trump must be defeated before he kills us all. Full stop. Any unselfish, patriotic American politician (oxymoron alert) who isn't focused on this end, is no true unselfish, patriotic American. Why in the @&K*%#%! are the Democrats unable to field a normal human for their champion? Joe B. is too old, and has that creeping up on women thing going on. Bernie is too old, and has that mad scientist thing going on. E. Warren is too old, and has that extreme left wing and phoniness thing going on. I like Pete B. plenty, but he has that homosexual thing going on. Amy is fine I guess. She does have those being a dick reports and that - what Bernie said about Warren thing going on. (A woman can't win)
Maybe someone on here can explain to me what was wrong with Eric effing Swalwell.
