New You Tube Video Up: Symbolism of Trees

Post by _Philo Sofee »

Here is my new video of the Symbolism and Meaning of Trees.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r95mLvzeog

I am going to give a lecture on Sunday from my paper which I mention here. The Unitarian Universalist Church is offering their facilities, which is quite nice! I am very excited. Come check out the interesting pervasiveness of the religious ideas about trees all over the ancient world, and enjoy the lecture. It's one of the most in-depth I have produced for many years.

There may be some in the audience who tapes it. I asked if I could video record it, but after working through the logistics yesterday I am really glad I had the foresight to do that! I'm not going to record it, so that's why I made the video so folks could see the lecture without the audience. A lot of older folks, and where I would have to set up the camera, they sit, and some get up and move around, etc., so I am playing it safe for my camera.

Yeah I spent all week doing the overhead drawings, and when I put them up yesterday to practice I couldn't hardly see any of them! I was mortified. So I spent the better part of yesterday redrawing everything with heavier lines. Sheesh! Oh the joy of trying to help folks understand some new things....

Thank you so much for the well wishes.

Your choice of topic has me stumped, in that it seems like you are barking up the wrong tree and going out on quite a limb, still, it is nice to see you branch out and I hope your ideas take root. I'll leave it at that.

I am glad to have the video. I just relish the thought of seeing/hearing you with your audience.

On my lecture....
I think overall it went really well. Several people said they really enjoyed it! The two Tibetan Buddhists (yes! We have them!) really enjoyed it. The woman said she had always wondered about the Kabbalah and was quite fascinated with the Tree of Life from Kabbalah being so similar to the Kundalini chakras up man's spine also. I was quite pleased with that. I also have about half a dozen or so get on my email list for more papers as I kick them out. Heh, imagine that, someone wants to actually READ my stuff......GRIN!
I met a guy who is 37 and had it with organized religion and so sought out a guru, and then went to India for a year with the guru and studied and learned to meditate. I mean WOW......... and he is delighted to be on the email list. That could prove to be quite interesting actually.
When I started the idea of gathering an email group to talk about the mysteries and other higher level things (if I can think that high anyway) I had only 3 and now I have about 25! And that's in just a couple days. I think so far its pretty even between women and men also. And many young kids are asking about it, which surprised me. I say young kids, folks in their 20's.
I think I set a record, I only put about half the audience to sleep......GRIN! I had to talk so fast, and skim off all the really good quotes, which left more generalized statements, but I think overall it was quite positive.
One REALLY fun moment, I had a good friend, more of a redneck totally liberal who swipes at Trump and Republicans all the time, come up and say to me, "I know you are a really bright guy. I know I am a really bright guy, but I didn't understand a damn thing you said!" He never reads anything and he lives out in Firth on the river bottoms. I just thought that was perfect. Sorry if it appears rude, but it was just a funny moment because I told him well, you need to start reading Joseph Campbell then! He is a quite staunch literalist, so its no surprise a discussion on symbolism just didn't click for him.
And then we watched the Super Bowl eating chicken wings and shrimp! And FINALLY! After 20 years of picking the wrong teams, I got the right one!!!! GO KC! Lol........I really am not a lot into football, but, I mean, after all, the Super Bowl ya know.
Oh! And hey! I joined a writer's Club! It's going to be VERY fun and interesting! A lot of poetry and short poems and stories. The one gal has my paper and she is just bowled over entirely by it. For the most part we are combining art and writing since they are both creative endeavors. I'll shoot some of my writings and ideas your way as I write them. We are meeting on two tuesdays a month and the fourth sunday for those who can't get together during the week. We don't have to attend every meeting but I am sure going to try to for the first few months until I get to clicking!
Anyway, that's the skinny for now.
