I mean, it's just a section, and it was probably freshly poured concrete? Why would this even make the news is beyond me. It's not like construction, in any fashion, doesn't experience setbacks. This is one of those stories and breathless sharing that promulgates the idea the Left suffers from TDS.

Some Border Patrol agents privately agreed that the wall cut deeply into a smuggling route and made life more difficult for the cartels.

Mr. Furey, for instance, said 21 different smuggling paths were cut at the wall. Where it ends, three-quarters of the way up Mount Cristo Rey for another two miles down the other side, remain open terrain that obviously a busy trafficking corridor. Driving me on a tour of this open section, Mr. Furey spotted a family of Guatemalan migrants walking along a railroad track.

He pulled over and rolled the passenger side window down. In Spanish, he told them all to wait for Border Patrol, whom he had already called on his cell phone. That's a call Mr. Furey has had to make many times.

A few minutes later, Border Patrol pulled up and took custody of the migrants.

I'm not really sure what to make of this particular effort. It'll be interesting, for sure, to see how illegal immigration and the narcotics trades shift in reaction to any new barrier systems that go up.

You end up with this, the Trump border wall, which apparently will need, essentially, to be left open for months at a time to accommodate flash flooding during the summer “monsoon season.” This episode of reality bites, the Washington Post reports, is brought to us by in-the-know border officials, agents, and engineers. Here’s the most maddening part from the Post: Along the more remote portions of the Southern border, large unmanned gates that need to be manually raised ahead of the seasonal flooding, and then left open for months to accommodate the large amounts of debris carried with it, are already being waltzed through by smugglers and undocumented migrants. Put more simply: The wall is already not working, so let’s build more!

The flooding risks are not new, but they represent one of the most significant engineering hurdles to President Donald Trump’s campaign promise of a “big, beautiful wall” on the Mexican border. The Trump administration has been largely silent on how it intends to cope with the diverse environmental realities of the border region that spans desert, canyons, and mountains. “The border is so diverse,” Roy Villareal, chief of Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, told the Post. “You have to plan for water flow. … People think it’s just this monolithic wall, sort of like the Great Wall of China, where you drop it into place and that’s all there is to it. And that’s not the reality at all.” On the upside, Villareal said the wall, even with gaps, narrowed the area that required human-monitoring.

Native American burial sites in Arizona have been blown up by construction crews building the US-Mexico border wall, according to lawmakers and tribal leaders. Authorities confirmed that "controlled blasting" has begun in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a Unesco recognised natural reserve.

Raul Grijalva, a Democrat congressman, called the destruction "sacrilegious". The government failed to consult the Tohono O'odham Nation, he said.

Environmental groups also warn of the damage being done to the local underground aquifer, as well as to migrating wildlife in the remote desert region about 115 miles (185km) west of Tucson.

Officials say the aim of the project is to construct a 30ft-tall (9m) steel barrier that runs for 43 miles on the national park land.

And it just keeps going. I only post this to demonstrate the absolute state we're in. It is interesting to see through social media just how different we all are, and we still somehow manage to exist under a Republic. It's crazy to see a body politic so polarized and so passionate about their individual opinions that somehow doesn't devolve into a civil war. I suspect our ultimate passivity is rooted in creature comforts (I'm serious). Here's hoping Mountain Dew and Cheetos do their job and keep up pacified.

And the head of our country is an infinite fountain of contempt. Our most recent medal of honor winner got famous by weaponizing contempt on a national scale. We have a whole section of media devoted to encouraging contempt. Hell, when was the last time we had a political discussion here without expression of outright contempt?

What chance does the ordinary guy or gal have? I feel like we're barreling toward a Rwanda, only with guns.

The author offers a solution. But, of course, its a prisoner's dilemma. And I see no evidence that, as a society, we are good at solving those.

Well. I still hold hope out that people will opt for peace and whatever democratic processes we can salvage out of the recent turns of events. All these idiots, and I'm looking at one in particular on this board, that agitate for a disintegration of the state, have no idea just how much suffering happens in these kinds of conflicts. It's one thing to see it online, but it's a whole nother ball game to have some dudes kick in your door and smoke your family, neighbors, and church.

Here's the thing, though. Systemic discrimination will eventually create some hens that'll come home to roost. It may not be now, but it'll be one day if, as a country, we keep doing stuff like this. I'd much prefer we welcome and integrate folks into a system that is, yes, orderly. However, we can't develop an orderly system of worker-immigration when the above seems to be the default mindset of our citizens.
