I listened to today’s WHO press conference. China reported separate numbers for confirmed and clinical cases. The clinical case figure wasn’t just cases in the last 24 hours. It included cases diagnosed but not confirmed by test throughout the period of the epidemic. Today is a temporary spike, not evidence of exponential growth.

I stick with the pros: the CDC and the WHO. They hold press briefings daily that you can find on their respective websites.

I stumbled on this article that describes the amount of effort that went into identifying the first US case and containing the spread of the virus. Imagine having to do this for 100 cases. Or 1000.

That story is not about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ramping up to engage with an oncoming pandemic, but is about being prepared for the worst case scenario if things go bad.

There were 19 confirmed cases as of last Friday, and they are tracking/monitoring 81 people as having had contact that haven't been confirmed as negative for contracting the virus.
