Understand what they are dealing with, like, "heavily wooded areas."

Have you heard about this case, RI? I know it's gotten some national attention.

I haven’t. How sad.

Yes, it's very sad.

It'd guess that it's too cost- and/or logistics-prohibitive.

It's the same substance (magnesium chloride) that they put on the roads in winter, Shades. It's already in CDOT warehouses and loaded on trucks. It is being dumped on roads as I type this. They'd have to pull up to the roadside, dump it, and then it would be spread by shovels along that area where they're sifting which my guess would take all of 30 minutes.

The question remains, would it degrade or destroy trace evidence as RI suggested?

Arrested.

Stepmother Letecia Stauch arrested today in SC for First degree murder of a child under 12 years of age by a person in a position of trust, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with evidence.

Gannon Stauch had been missing for 5 weeks and while I can detail the case I won't do it here. That's not what this post is about. I will say that I have watched for all this time El Paso County Sheriff's Office receive on-going criticism by often times an ignorant public that demanded answers in the face of an active investigation and actual attempts to advise the investigators (including local LE, CBI and FBI) who lent decades of experience and expertise to this case.

This case has touched the local community and also the true crime community world-wide. It has certainly touched me on multiple levels not the least of which is the fact that this has unfolded essentially in my backyard, as a child advocate, and as a mother.

There are rare moments in life when one has perhaps the unfortunate privilege of seeing a mother stand strong and upright when she is on her knees, boldly exercise her faith every time she speaks before us, display courage in deepest valley of her fear, a mother who steadfastly sees her child through in spite of her own pain and suffering--and also because of it. A mother who is simultaneously humble and demanding in that the community do right by her son.

That is Landen Bullard Hiott. I want you to see her. I want you to witness her courage.

Earlier today Landen posted this on her Facebook page. She may have already known the outcome when she posted this.

I could never do justice to the heart of Landen Hiott. You did right by him, Landen. You did right by your boy.

Tragic. That poor mother.

I have been captivated by a few stories (Fatal Vision comes to mind), but I'm not a member of the "True Crime Community", so I googled a bit here. I watched Landen Bullard Hiott's statement. I think it is difficult to watch her and not be moved to tears.

Her fierceness and her intensity may be molded by her faith and community, but I find that visceral bond between an mother and baby is a part of the reason we are successful as a species. Not all mothers, to be sure, but I have no doubt Jersey Girl, that you are one protective mama bear.

This was Gannon's parents first press conference. Landen speaking first. She tells us about who her child is. He was born with a 10% chance of survival.
