As much as I’d like this to be true, I don’t have much confidence in Assange’s veracity.

It's plausible, but every name in that story is a corrupt liar with an incentive to lie, so it makes it difficult to sort what actually happened.

Anyway, remember when Dana Rohrabacher was on the short list to be Secretary of State with his only meaningful qualification being a Russian stooge?

I dunno. Who's the biggest liar? Assange or Trump? The problem is I need documentation before I would believe a word from either of them. I mean it's plausible, but things get convoluted. Assange was allegedly involved in the Wikileaks that assisted Trump, so why Julian would have any scruples about saying Russia wasn't involved is beyond me.

Assange’s lawyers said on Wednesday that former Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher offered Assange the deal in 2017, ...

Since Congressman Rohrabacher was the Kremlin's man in Congress at that time, that detail at least rings true. The offer sounds very Trumpian.
