Re: Bloomberg and what he brings to the mix$
Thanks for chiming in EA and Schmo, your thoughts lined up right with where I was at.
As to the complaints I'm not sure what to say other than, "it's just a meme, brother". Apologies if the analogy seemed over the top but I thought it pretty well captured exactly how devastating Warren's performance was to Bloomberg and I'm kind of surprised so much was read into the language. I also wouldn't dare to speak for them but given who shared the tweet with me and the reactions I've seen around it, and others just like it, I wish you nothing but luck in asking women to couch their language when dealing with a known sexist, misogynist and probable sexual offender (Bloomberg in this case, I know it can get twisted given our current president).
I do have to say that if you didn't find this funny I wouldn't touch Twitter (or probably most online platforms) with a ten foot pole, this was pretty tame all things considered.

I think for the proles 'punching him in the dick' is a fine way to say Ms. Warren did well at the debate. Salty language infused with visceral imagery has long been a staple of us common folk. No need to tut tut it, in my opinion.
Now. If Ms. Warren said, "I punched that cockgoblin squarely in the mangina." I'd march down to the post office, swim through millions of pieces of mail until I could find my mail-in ballot, and immediately proceed to tear it to pieces*.
Edited: I voted for the richer Jew.

I have said my piece on this, and now others have responded.
On those responses: it is very common for those who threaten women in public or political life with violence on Twitter (particularly sexual violence) to claim that it is intended 'as a joke'. I don't agree that supposedly intended comic effect is a universal justification for violent online language, though I agree that it may be at times, and in some particular contexts. So I stick to my point: while women must make their own choices about joining in, I can't see what they have to gain by doing so.
This is, by the way, nothing to do with whether one is or is not a 'prole' - which is where my own social origins would unambiguously place me. Some of us have learned to write grammatically, and even take a shower now and then.

I, too, am now a man of refinement and sophistication.

Yeah, you’re just confusing and combing ordinary metaphor - Elizabeth Warren kicked Michael Bloomberg’s ass - with threats of violence masked by irony.Chap wrote:I have said my piece on this, and now others have responded.

Do you wonder, if someone made a joke about cutting off Elizabeth Warren's arm and shove it up her vagina, do you think people would be laughing? Would that be funny? Is what's good for the goose good for the gander?
For both Warren and Bloomberg (and I am a bigger fan of Warren than Bloomberg) the answer has to be 'no'. Misogyny and Misandry should both be avoided. And if the image of tearing off a woman's arm is disgusting, why is it less disgusting to tear off a man's arm? Because he deserves it? I find a kind of Muslim Cleric Fanaticism in that sentiment.
The hell? This post makes you seem like you are 75 years old and just discovered the Internet.
Well I am nearly 70 years old, but I have been using the internet since before the world wide web, when it was a text-based Unix system. So yeah, bucko, I've probably been using the internet longer than you have.
So explain what you mean.

You are scolding about a very common form of communication on the Internet that doesn't carry the implication you seem to think it does, which makes you come across as an older person who is out of touch with evolving standards of language. You hit the sweet spot of moral panic and misunderstanding of culture that tends to be associated with older age.MeDotOrg wrote:Well I am nearly 70 years old, but I have been using the internet since before the world wide web, when it was a text-based Unix system. Re: Bloomberg and what he brings to the mix$
The only post-debate poll on the subject has Bloomberg's net approval rating falling by 20 points (!) among Democratic voters. Bloomberg also has been in damage control mode and sworn off confidentiality agreements in sexual harassment claims going forward.
Elizabeth Warren bodied Bloomberg for a few minutes on TV and managed to light hundreds of millions of his dollars on fire and force him to make a substantial improvement in the practices of a major American business.
Not too shabby.

I guess you don't care about fiscal responsibility. While I don't think everything Trump does is bad or wrong I am curious what you think he has done that you care about.
Also should fiscal responsibility not be one of the most important issues right now given that the US has a massive debt that is getting larger by massive deficits created by huge tax cuts to the rich and spending more then is needed on military?
