I'm starting to envy people who work from home. This is not a fun time to be working in the public service sector.
A mask isn’t going to help you. Do you have employees? Do you charge cancellation fees? What’s your protocol for cleaning between patients? How often do you clean surfaces in your waiting area? In your restroom? Do you wear gloves during an exam? If not, is it feasible for you to do so?
Your best protection is to make sure that your employees don’t come to work sick and your clients don’t come to your work sick. Think about anything that might encourage sick to people to come to your workplace. Then see if you can change that. Second best, think about how the virus can get from a stick person to you, and try to interrupt those pathways. What do clients touch with their faces or hands. Can you ask them to wash hands and faces before their exam? Can you do extra cleaning of surfaces they are likely to touch?
I can understand why it’s nerve wracking! I’m fortunate to be working from home right now.

I hope they don't share those MAGA hats? Imagine they go to the bathroom exit touching the door handle. It they use a paper towel to touch the handle what do they do with the piece of paper towel? It is possible that someone in that crowd might have had some contact with someone from the infected countries.

Next week is one of the biggest geeky conventions in Seattle: Emerald City Comic Con. Cons are notorious for spreading cold and flu. It’s called “con crud.” The organizers have decided not to cancel. The city and county have decided not to ask them to cancel. Why not? Once you cancel one convention, it’s hard to justify allowing any to go forward until the epidemic peaks locally. No one knows how long that will take. And Seattle makes a ton of money from conventions. The city is in the middle of building huge expansion to its convention center.
And so thousands of my fellow local geeks are going to spend up to four days in a giant Covid-19 incubator. This makes me grumpy because lots of my fellow board gamers attend. And I really want to avoid this bug.

Are you referring to cancelling their press briefing or something else?

Probably referring to several things, not least of which was releasing a patient in San Antonio who later tested positive for Coronavirus.

My old junior high in Washington state is now closed due to coronavirus. They're treating someone for coronavirus at Northwest Community Hospital down the road in Arlington Heights and won't say whether the case is travel-related or community spread.
It's getting real.

At the risk of sounding like a CONSPIRACY THEORIST, the CDC said they were going to start surveillance testing back on Feb.14th.
They haven’t started, at least as of yesterday.
There are also a host of things I’d be tempted to list, like issues with testing kits, but I don’t want to come off like a CONSPIRACY THEORIST.

Any success in finding the masks that you wanted?

When I was working the HR health section put up signs in the toilets for folks to wash their hands. I and others would before we exited the toilet would talk a piece and use to touch the handle as we exited and deposited it in the waste bin in the kitchen. Can the virus survive on the PC keyboard. I also wonder at the Casino up the road the Pokie machine buttons might have the virus. When I have gone there I notice a lot of Asians playing. Here unfortunately some Chinese food shops are losing business.
