In Washington, we’ve had our first school district closure. It’s a relatively small district that straddles the King-Snohomish county line. I think it borders the school district where the Life Care facility is located. Other districts have begun cancelling after school events and programs.
The University of Washington will switch to online classes starting Monday. Major businesses are directing employees to work from home, as are government entities. I’m impressed with how the fact the big employers here are incorporating social distancing. Many of them do business worldwide, so they’ve seen what this looks like elsewhere. My favorite local game pub cancelled all group events for the next week, and will play things by ear after that.
As more and more cases develop, the larger government entries are increasingly unable to keep up with and reporting detailed information. My county health department is now my best source of information. They report the numbers of confirmed cases, deaths, positive tests awaiting confirmation, negative tests, number of persons hospitalized, number of people in home quarantine, and number of confirmed cases that have recovered.
Friends report continued shortages of masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, and toilet paper. I guess the latter is the one thing you don’t want to run out of.
There is heightened anxiety of availability of testing, schools, and the health of the folks in the life care facility. But nothing approaching panic or hysteria.
The state and local governments continue to advise rather than use their emergency powers. People are following the advice, so that’s working out for now.
Exception: the Emerald City Comicon is still scheduled to happen next weekend. That’s just freaking stupid.

As of yesterday, the Clark County School District in southern NV has cancelled all out of state trips, and local field trips.
There are some rumblings in the local press that the child of the man who has now been isolated might be a CCSD student.
I stopped at the grocery store on my way home to grab some milk, and there wasn't any water, hand sanitizer, or rubbing alcohol. Curiously, all of the hand soap appeared to be untouched...
