When I watch him riff through a Dr. Evil monologue like that, I'm always aware of how Trump is intellectually crippled by his narcissism. The takeaway he wanted was EVERYBODY GETS A TEST. Trump seems to feel that by forcefully stating what he wishes to be true, it will come true. This can work if you're a promoter, where your own hype can help generate the buzz to get a project going.

But the promoter's skills of optimism, confidence and assurance are just pie-in-the-sky BS when it comes to communicating accurately about a pandemic. A narcissist cannot tell himself that narcissism isn't working. So Trump lies and bullshits along, where a 'perfect' phone call with Ukraine and a 'perfect' response to COVID-19 are all a part of the same narcissistic continuum.

If you were time-travel back to 2015 and say "this is President Trump in 2020, speaking at the CDC about a pandemic", and show that video, I think people would be a lot more upset that they appear to be now. I think our sense of outrage has been dulled, when What an outrageous self-aggrandizing self-promoting mindless thoughtless heartless brainless bullshitting unworthy son of a bitch! is about the only proper response.
