Lemmie wrote:Interesting development in NYC. My spouse has UPS delivery/pick up daily at his large wholesale warehouse. Normally they bring packages in to be signed for, but starting today, UPS delivery people will now only drop off packages outside and will not enter the warehouse. A worker has to go outside and take delivery of packages on the sidewalk, and then move them inside.

It’s the little things, right?

Correction. It was NOT ups that instituted this. It was my husband’s company that has determined that no deliveries or materials (or even returns) from ANYONE are allowed to be brought inside the building. Instead, his company workers are directed to take possession of all materials OUTSIDE, and then bring them in following the strict disinfection procedures I mentioned before. All warehouse entrances are now locked he tells me, and all customers, etc. must be buzzed in so they can control the environment as much as possible.

I love my husband’s company.

Local anecdotal stuff:

1. Seen on a Facebook mother's group. Mom wants to know if she should take children to Disney on Ice at a local arena with a concert capacity of approx 8k seats. Several moms respond with "children under 15 really aren't at risk so I would go".

2. Local school district: Moms are emailing superintendent asking that school be shut down early for Spring break. Chattering from the school--we've already used up our snow days, school would have to go into summer. Chattering back from Moms: So what? Shut down now. (The not so hidden message is that if you don't shut down, we're going to shut you down ourselves--hand that rocks the cradle. Go moms!)

3. Thermometer issues: I just remembered that last time we tried to use our digital thermometer it didn't work. Looked on Amazon--all out, right? Nope. I ordered a Basal Body Thermometer of which there were plenty and not only that they're more precisely accurate. Family planning methods are your friend. Write that down.

Thanks for the thermometer information.

We recently replaced ours and our kids, when I tried it the first time my temp was 96 degrees. Given I was not then nor had I recently been trapped under ice in a frozen lake, hypothermia seemed unlikely so I chalked it up to calibration issues. Then I fully read the instructions and the problem resolved itself. Go figure. accuracy is still not the best, so I’ll try the basal thermometer, thanks!

Yeah, I forget to include thermometers on my list of things that my local stores are out of.

Grabbed an infrared thermometer in January when this thing started hitting the news. Figured they might become scarce.

I take my temp and my kids' temps every morning.

Wish I'd thought to grab masks. (Not to wear everyday, I'd just like a box in case anyone in my family gets sick.)

To humanize the pandemic a bit further here’s an Italian nurse’s Instagram post posted by a fellow Italian ->

I am an Italian living away from home and what she wrote sincerely moved me. Translation of her instagram post (I'm no pro but I did my best):

"I'm a nurse and in this situation I am facing this sanitary emergency. I too am scared, but not of going buying groceries, I am scared of going to work. I am scared my mask is not sticking properly, or that I touched it with dirty gloves by mistake, or maybe that lenses do not fully cover my eyes and something goes through. I am physically exhausted because personal protective equipment hurts my body, the white coat makes you sweat and after I dress myself I can't go to the bathroom or even drink for 6 hours. I'm psychologically tired, and just like me also all my coworkers, which have been working in this situation for weeks. But this will not prevent us from doing our job as we have always done. I will keep curing and caring after my patients, because I am proud and in love with my job. What I am now asking to whoever is reading is not to make this effort vain. Please be altruistic and stay home, so that you can protect those who are weak. We young people are not immune to the coronavirus, we can get sick too, or even worse, we can make others get the virus. I don't have the luxury of going home in quarantine, I have to go to work and do my part. You do yours, I beg you."

—————————-

I was supposed to start a large landscaping project for my neighborhood today, the pollinator garden I mentioned a while ago, but I’m feeling unusually weak and achy so I’m postponing it until I know if I’m sick or not. About three weeks ago my wife and I were at the gym and this old lady was hacking and coughing for the entire hour she was there. She was at times within a few feet of us, and we just kept looking at each other wondering if the coronas had made it here. Who knows, man. If I diez I bequeath all my cussing privileges to Jersey Girl, because I know she’ll actually use it.

Trump saying he is not going to be tested or self-quarantine despite being exposed to Corona is either him being an obnoxious idiot or him lying to appear in control and therefore also being an obnoxious idiot. Either way, the man continues to be an anti-role model.

That’s actually consistent with my local health department’s guidance. No need to stay home unless you develop symptoms, even if you have close contact with someone who later tests positive.

Walmart underground tip: But only if you really think you need it--high risk group type need. So I went in to pick up the last of my Rx's. Prior to that I got a phone call from a reliable informant. If your Walmart looks like it's out of hand sanitizer, that might not be the case.

Go to the make up department. Find the little girl's make up. Look on that small-ish display. There are hand sanitizer bottles the same size as the little Bath and Body Works travel size ones. Plus, they're cute. They look like you can hang them off a key chain. I looked and sure enough they were there.

I didn't need any of the particulars but I did go have a look. Completely out of everything that I think is pertinent to the cause. Cashier asked me "Did you find everything you need besides cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and paper goods?" She told me that the store is definitely getting restock from their warehouse soon but it will be a limit per customer basis for those most wanted/needed items.

Which is exactly what all retailers need to be doing. I have faith that the stores will recover the supply chain in a few weeks around here. Meanwhile everyone is obviously ass deep in stock at home so I expect the new limits to work just fine.

I also noticed upon entering the store, the dispenser of Purell wipes was empty. (I'm surprised no one has tried breaking into those out of desperation yet). I looked to the right where there is an eye clinic door. Right there is a double dispenser of both gel and Purell wipes. So look around when entering stores there might be more than one dispenser in the entry way.

Dropped off my Amazon returns and stupidly let the guy hold my phone to scan the code. Wiped it down as soon as I got back in the car. I wipe down my car and my hands like it's my job anyway, right on down to the keys I'm carrying. Lessons learned in the trenches via my work for decades. :-)

So now...I sit tight.

Did you observe him in his address? Notice anything?
