This happened because Trump's travel ban, which at this point makes no sense given how much local infection we already have, caused a travel crunch that the Trump admin did not adequately prepare airports for. It happened at all major airports and probably was a disease incubator.
(Also, I've resigned myself to the fact that NPR type news sources will cover this as, "Devin Nunes encourages economic resilience in troubled times" with "some health experts question his advise" in paragraph 3 or something like that. And thus, there will be no political price for it. The media's awfulness is destroying us.)
I know America is too busy having a snowball fight on the Titanic at the moment to care about such things, but it matters.
Reading that article, nothing seemed bad or out of the ordinary until this paragraph.
Welt am Sonntag also quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists’ work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, “but only for the United States.”
That seems way over the top, like a scene from a really bad pandemic movie, but then I remembered that the only thing that matters to Trump is winning. This accusation seems not only plausible, but likely.

The German Health Ministry is saying it happened. That'll do wonders from dissuading people around the world from seeing the US as the land of greed and selfish exploitation. It's something straight out of a Soviet propaganda film about us.
Maybe the thread I started on this topic (which perhaps did not attract attention ...) could now be added to these posts?

368 dead in Italy in a single day. Italy has now seen 57% of the deaths China has seen despite having only 60.48 million people versus China's 1.386 billion, though most of the Chinese deaths occurred in Hubei, which has 58.5 million people. At this rate Italy will surpass China's death count in 3-4 days.
Yet my boomer Trump-supporting relatives continue to post on social media about how we've "only" had a few dozen deaths in America and the flu has killed many more. Chicago's bars and restaurants were crowded this weekend with mostly young people celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
Unbelievable.

Yeah but. Yeah but they are looking at stats for a flu season not for 2020. I swear if I see one more person online say "We don't even do this much for the flu" Imma flip out and yell--BECAUSE FLU VACCINES YOU DOLTS!!

Alastair Bitsóí thought he’d be a shoo-in for coronavirus testing.
Bitsóí developed the signature cough and fever of the virus on Wednesday, about three days after he flew home to Utah from New York City, where there are more than 150 confirmed cases. He worried that others on his flight might be infected and unwittingly spreading COVID-19.
But after long queues for an online doctor's exam, a dead-end call to Utah's automated coronavirus hotline, a negative flu test in Intermountain Medical Center's emergency room, and a daylong wait for a response from nurses at the University of Utah, Bitsóí got word:
He did not qualify for a coronavirus test.
"I need to have been exposed to a positive case," Bitsóí said, moments after his final rejection on Friday. "That's what [the nurse] told me."
Bitsóí and other Utah patients say they’ve navigated a gauntlet of automated phone trees, conflicting instructions and circular logic as they tried — and failed — to get tested for coronavirus.
There is absolutely no way we have accurate numbers on this thing.

EA I think it was on this thread that you posted the image of ORD? Do you know if they were doing forehead scanners and that was the reason they were ass deep in people or was it reduced flights packed like sardines?
