My spouse’s large, privately held company is taking the situation very seriously.

Customers will no longer be allowed inside their warehouses and facilities who have traveled to, or been exposed to anyone who has traveled to China, S. Korea, Italy, and about 5 other countries since Jan 1st. They can purchase over the phone and or take delivery outside the store, but they cannot enter.

The traveled to part is extreme but doable, I suppose, but is there anyone left in NYC has NOT been exposed to a 2020 traveler to one of those countries?

Lots of local folks posted today that grocery stores are pretty bare. No milk, no eggs, no canned food, no frozen veggies. But they are hiring like mad — not enough employees to restock when the trucks arrive. It’s all a bit unworldly.

One weirdness is watching late night shows without their audience. I watched a bit of Stephen Colbert, and he was kind of rudderless without an audience to propel him along. John Oliver did much better, his comedy works without a live laugh track.

With everyone self isolating, to do a variety show you're going to need videoconferencing software.

crap happened. Yes I posted earlier and you can't tell by my comments that crap happened. I was decompressing. Here it is.

It occurred to me yesterday that watching the reports (everywhere I look) has had a bit of a 9/11 effect on me. If I'm online--it's there. If I'm not--I'm hearing it on the television that I myself am not even watching. It had all the hallmarks of the 9/11 reports, the constant drone and I'd be less than honest if I said it wasn't getting to me. It's on Facebook, it's in my email...its on this board, it's basically everywhere.

So today (which will be yesterday--Monday--by the time anyone reads this) the moment I woke up and turned on my phone I woke up to a family complaint. That is to say one person complaining about the other. I'm the one that everyone filters their stuff through. Then the other person complaining about the first person. Anyway...at the root of the conflict was, you guessed it, coronavirus.

The day was stressful, I didn't pay attention to some things I was doing, didn't take any breaks from the situation, and I ended up in an ambulance with my first attack of AFIB in 8 months. I was so pissed that I've been perfectly fine until today.

I'm going somewhere with this...hang on...so everything went perfectly well and I was out of the ER in record time. When they put you under for a few minutes to electrocardiovert you, they put you out with propofol. I freaking love propofol. Anyway, the nurse said they were planning to use something else and I debated her until she caved. Turns out I was debating an MD. ;-) Anyway, when they push the propofol it's like someone simply closes a window and you're completely out--gone. Then you slowly wake up and feel superb when you do.

Listen to what happened this time.

I hallucinated under propofol. Never has that ever happened not once not ever. When I woke up I discussed it with the doctor and she said that's common. I told her it's never happened to me.

Here's the kicker. The thing I hallucinated was a screen of stats. EXACTLY like the real time maps. It WAS the stats on the real time maps only it was in black and white. The list of countries with the numbers to the right.

Okay this is where I'm going with this. I'm backing off. I'm backing off and limiting viewing or taking in CV coverage. That means I'll have to limit any Facebook viewing and time reading or listening to news, etc. I'm not going to stop posting but I probably won't spend as much time doing it. I'm not saying I'm out of here because we all know that I'm not. ;-)

I think it's so easy in a time like this to get sucked in. I got sucked in and I need to suck myself out. Separate myself from what feels like the constant drip of CV news.

I thought I was managing really well until today. I suppose it's been bubbling under the surface and the conflict set off a chain reaction. I credit myself with keeping it together. Well, not today!

Hospital report: Every single person in the ER was wearing standard medical masks. Including the security guard and the person at discharge. They said they weren't giving any out to patients because they were reserving them for staff only. JB said the ER waiting room (where he entered) was like a ghost town. I came in the ambulance entrance so I had no idea. But the ER also seemed unusually quite.
They did screen for CV (questions) and I had a chest x-ray (standard before electrocardioversion) and it was perfectly fine, no temp, nothing. Everything was fine except for my blood sugar which involves what I ate prior which ultimately ended up with me in AFIB.

I unexpectedly got screened, got a good report, if you will, and no signs of CV. I asked if they had negative pressure rooms-yes.

So...wake up call for me. All things considered I'm glad it happened right now and not in a few weeks when the hospital could have been crazy. If any of you guys are starting to feel stressed and maybe not acknowledging that it's wearing you down...take a break from it. You all may be more self disciplined than I am in a situation like this. But, there's little point to watching the blow by blow unless that's your deal and it serves you intellectually.

And stay well.

Awesome pic, Lemmie. I'm afraid my cats would run at the first hint of the virus. Unless it were in their food.

 Thank you! My son, home while his school is transitioning to online, is Skyping and he just showed that picture to a friend of his who is a 6’4”, 300 lb defensive end at a D1 school. He very politely said to me, “[my son]’s Mom, that picture of your cat makes me a little nervous.”

The lovely Ms. Ipsa has a look like that that always makes me a little nervous.
