A new weird wrinkle:

“New Yorkers should be prepared right now for the possibility of a shelter-in-place order,” the mayor said at a City Hall press conference Tuesday afternoon.

“I believe this decision should be made in the next 48 hours,” the mayor said of a New York City order that would shut down all non-essential business....

My spouse commutes into the Bronx, and as his company updates their cv policies, one of the memos said they had been designated an “essential business,” I assume because their customers service the air handling needs for many of the city’s hospitals, research facilities, medical offices, grocery store chains, etc.

In other words, commuting for “essential businesses” will be allowed, all other commuting won’t? Who knows. What a mess.

Meanwhile, on a far, far tinier scale, my municipal council won’t make a decision about whether pt employees will get paid if we close, and is defaulting the decision to me, the volunteer, UNPAID, non-elected, library board appointee. Talk about grass-roots. I’m pretty miffed that our city attorney basically threatened my library director, saying if we had a policy that distinguished between FT and PT employees, we’d “ better have a really good reason”! How about helping out, paid and elected politicians? Do the work we elect and pay you for!

I had a small list of random items to purchase but I decided to table that idea and just get what I need from outside the store.

The school district was offering a drive-through breakfast/lunch thing from 9:30 - 12:30. We don't need it financially, but the stores have been bare of essentials like milk and bread. So I waited until the end of the window (to make sure I didn't take a meal from someone who really needs it) and drove through. They dropped a bunch of sack lunches and breakfasts through my passenger side window, no questions asked.

It's good to get these little bits of help here and there.

Our school districts are doing that too! I think it's a great idea and will help ease the squeeze.

I saw this on one of my local Facebook page for moms. I don't know if you've seen it but it sure seems to be adding some levity to the situation at hand for mothers who are working from home with the challenge of kids and pets. I'll copy over a few of the comments.

For everyone working from home, drop something below that your kids are doing but refer to them as your co-workers

My co-worker is laying on the floor with his toes in his mouth.

My coworker is crying because I won’t give her a bite of my food.

My co-worker keeps climbing inside of the fridge.

My coworker is crawling on his belly to get a pencil.

My co worker is slacking off on his job, he didn’t even bark when the doorbell rang.

My co-worker is dreaming about my boobie milk. (pic of sleeping infant)

My coworker is putting is her clean clothes up. Ya know all 4 baskets of clean clothes.

My coworker just threw a tantrum, because I wouldn't let him play with scissors.

My co-worker is making me a cup of coffee! Lol taught my 8 year old how to use the keurig!

My coworker is in time out for stomping on a bunch of cookie cutters, and another one is chewing on my boob.

My coworker is scrubbing my floor boards with a toothbrush.

One coworker has already peed her pants today (saves on toilet paper) and another co-worker is singing the itsy bitsy spider.

One of my coworkers is running around the office in their underwear.

Response: that's an HR violation!!

One of my My co-workers is convinced that depositing gifts at my doorstep (usually legos or k’nex, but the odd doorstop or rubber glove will do), will curry good favor. Almost always accompanied by a plaintive meow.

My other current co-worker is self-quarantining after a non-domestic college spring break, and frequently asks for more food.

Is it really possible that he needs SIX FULL MEALS in a day? Where the H-E-double hockey sticks does he put it???? My “year’s supply” is dwindling fast....

My furry co-worker just took her Prozac and is off to dream land.

My other co-worker ordered and assembled an entire bicycle and it's charging in the middle of my living room.

And so it goes.

Lemmie...one of my co-workers in Hudson County sent me another CV related message in messenger. A video of Chris someone singing My Corona. This was my response.

Please stop sending me messages about the virus. It's in my face every second I'm online and I don't like feeling stressed out about it.

And now I'm block her messages. I had deleted her entire message history and this is the one I needed to use my phone to block her in messenger. Hoping this works as instructed!

ETA: It works!

The Governor just shut down all the casinos in Nevada for the next 30 days along with all non-essential businesses like shopping malls and bars. I just got off the phone with a few panicking clients wanting to know how they will survive. I don't know what to say other than to hang in there and that UBI may be a reality, at least for the short term.

Ouch. That’s going to really hurt.
