Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
When I was 2 years old, I somehow drank Clorox. My mother took me to the hospital at the time, but you know what?
I've never gotten Covid19. So yeah, that works...
My mother died in 1964. We thought the Cuban Missile Crisis was bad. (Sudden thought: Imagine Trump as President during the Cuban Missile Crisis). I imagine explaining our country to her: Run by a reality game show host whose latest suggestion for fighting a pandemic is to ingest disinfectants.
Donald Trump is certainly among the most incompetent Presidents in our history. And history, that sick sonofabitch, has paired his Presidency with a Pandemic. It's like mixing alcohol with pain killers. It will not end well.
I'm not sure what people think the country will be like in November. But if many states re-open without valid testing protocols in place, and with no mechanisms for contact tracing, I cannot see how that doesn't end in disaster.
Donald Trump lives in the 'transactional now', whatever gets him ahead this week or next month. With early openings, the 'transactional now' will grow into a future that even Trump's minions will have a hard time defending.

"Some experts" think injecting yourself with bleach to kill coronavirus is a bad idea.
The NYT is both-sidesing drinkin' bleach now.

The original White House transcript had Dr. Birx saying sunlight was a valid treatment for the virus, but they have since changed it. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/pol ... 018422001/

Interesting development about COVID. It has been baffling doctors everywhere by causing blood clotting, and they suspect there have been many more deaths due to COVID that were otherwise unknown. One guy had to have his leg amputated because clotting had cut off blood to his toes. CAT scans of lungs and autopsies are showing lungs with thousands of tiny clots instead of typical damage caused respiratory infections. Unlike the flu, the damage is more dispersed as opposed to isolated in one area on one side.

I had to screencap that post for future generations, lest the children of Trump voters disbelieve the craziness foisted upon this time by their parents.EAllusion wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 5:40 amI checked in on the online MAGA world and, for the moment, they seem split between:
1) Orwellian "he didn't say the things we recorded him saying" insanity
or
2) "Actually, spraying Lysol in your face is good" insanity.
Which will win out? I'm going with #1, but then again, I don't think I would've predicted any of this 10 years ago, so who knows what wonderful surprises reality has in store.

Trump is going with, "I was being sarcastic." So congrats to all the conservatives who were going with the Orwellian, "Actually, he didn't say that" line. Kudos all around.

“I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen... it was a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside.”
TDS! HAIR FIRE!
Could you imagine the absolute thermonuclear meltdown the Right would be having had Obama said this? Could you imagine the sheer amount of racist crap the Right would’ve posted online had Obama suggested injecting disinfectants as a cure?
Lol. We absolutely live in a simulation.

Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
This is where team politics causes damage. It requires not facing reality when doing so will hurt the team, regardless of how much facing reality hurts the team. Even the smallest perceived negative fact has to be denied because it might influence the undecided voter, or so the playbook goes. In this case, the better reaction is to admit it was a dumb comment and face the over-reaction from the other side that always comes if the denial game isn't played. Then, point out how silly the over-reaction to the admission of reality is. Trump's mouth runs too much and he doesn't inspire confidence in the face of this crisis. However, Biden seems to be losing his faculties and has the creepy factor.
I'd love to have an alternative or a bunch of them. If we had 5 or 6 strong parties, the eventual winner would perhaps only have 20% of the vote and would be forced to make concessions and deals. More deliberation would happen and we probably wouldn't have had a rush to save the billionaire donors like the first stimulus was. The people would ultimately have more control. Instead we have a case where none of the two candidates excites, like most elections.

Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
The President of the United States, while giving a briefing on the most dire national emergency since WII (aside from *maybe* the Cuban Missile Crisis), mused about treating a virus by getting sunlight into the body or injecting disinfectants. I'm not sure how it is possible to overreact to that unless you immediately commit suicide upon hearing it.
A comment from Will Stancil seems apt here:
The worst thing about this is that the people both-sidesing Trump’s views on injecting people with bleach see themselves as the responsible, even-keeled adults, and see all the people reacting like “THAT’S INSANE” as hysterical partisans. Honestly this is the bizarre inversion that defines this era. The fantasists who treat the president as normal have claimed the mantle of sobriety and seriousness, while the sane people, the ones who look at the whole spiraling situation and freak out, get sidelined as hysterics. t’s an unsolvable dilemma for sane people: either talk about President Alligator Moat like he’s a responsible, reliable, good-faith leader and partner in government, or become stigmatized as a partisan fanatic who no one takes seriously.

This one is certainly worth a thousand words... in real-time.
