Lockdown Hair

And, I'm going to take a scissor to my hair any second.

That is all.

And in reading today I noticed this remark:

I'm actually not opposed to re-opening to some extent. Oh, I'm personally not going anywhere. My clippers arrived and I cut my own hair for the first time in my life. Looks pretty good actually, and I didn't even use a mirror.
Yeah, even though our salons have re-opened and I've got one about 10 minutes away, I'm not going anywhere either. I was on a vocational track in HS. Took cosmetology in Jr and Sr year, so I know how to cut hair but I never thought I was very good at it. I actually did end up taking a scissor to my hair this week. Tipped off the ends, shortened my bangs, and point cut everything. Not bad.

My original plan was to buzz it all off into a Pixie. I have these on my Amazon wish list (though currently unavailable now):

What are you guys doing for hair cuts? Have you DIY'd it? Let it do what it wants? Somehow snuck a hair cut? Did your state re-open salons and have you gone in? What are your plans?

I had a haircut right before Arizona's stay at home order was issued. So I've been letting it go. I changed to a different styling choice to deal with the length a couple of weeks ago but it's pretty unruly. We have clippers so if it comes down to it, I could cut and my wife has suggested she wouldn't mind doing it if I feel the need. I'm holding out telling myself it looks fine as long as no one can see its over my collar in the back.

Salons and barbers reopened on Friday here, and I saw the one I go to opened up, too. I'm not quite ready to go in, though. Arizona deaths are averaging 30-ish a day recently with no sign of retreating yet.

Yesterday was the first time since the beginning that we had no deaths in our county. I'm still not going anywhere. I admire your decision to stay the course, honor. Apparently there are plenty of residents that have no self control. Or something.

I did think about sending him a twenty for the cut I missed last month to help him out. I'm curious to find out if he got a small business loan or what he did the last six weeks. But it can wait. I've been a customer for eight years now, and it's a neighborhood business. Original owner sold this last year but the stylists are the same. I hope they make it.

In my house one said f it and shaved his head, one decided long hair is not so bad, the third hasn’t...ahem...been in a position to cover the grey, and the 4th has always had his hair cut in-house. By me.

So, in response to the question “what are you guys doing?” We are doing one Yul Brynner, one long-haired hippie freak, one Mother Earth desperately intoning “grey is the new red,” and one sitting pretty in the catbird seat. (Who had better be nice to me. Guess who’s holding the scissors.)

Yea, we’re slowly losing our minds here.

There are plenty of folks around here paying their stylists NOT to cut their hair. I think that's an outstanding way to lend support!

Lemmie you know I was sitting here reading your post and it hit me. I've never had my hair colored in a salon. I ask you, how weird is that? I was never great at cutting hair (I can do it but I'm by no means gifted) but coloring was something I was always damn good at doing. I can section and color my hair in my sleep and I'm pretty sure I actually did that many a Sunday night before work the next day.

I always said that when I quit work I'd stop coloring it. That didn't happen until a year after I resigned. It took a full year to grow out the color and when I finally got that last cut that removed what was left of the color....WOW. I ended up with the prettiest silver/white I could ever have imagined. People actually stop me in the store and compliment me on it which is something that never happened to me before and probably won't happen again any time soon since I am not going inside the actual stores.

[/the story of my hair color journey]

If the...ahem...person in your house that would like to cover the grey would like some tips on good touch up option, let me know via PM's and I'll give you some to...ahem...pass on to them.

I like the Yul Brynner idea! Right now I'm in the hippie freak stage like your family member. I actually bought overalls last week to go with the new/old look!

But...what I really want in my heart of hearts is to buzz it all off into a Pixie. How positively FREEING would that be? Does that sound like I am losing my mind, too? Seriously, I'm out here in the sticks who the heck would know except Jersey Boy and trust me, he doesn't have enough hair to criticize.

Oh and I read somewhere that folks wanting to cut their hair off in the pandemic is a symptom or sign of one who is trying to exercise control over something. Anything. Just anything! Like our hair.

I've been shaving my head for about 16 years. I honestly can't remember the last time someone else cut my hair. My scalp has a tan.

My hair is driving me nuts. I needed a haircut when the lockdown started. Clippers ordered and will be here eventually.
