Re: Did this really just happen?
You don't need to know what happened before the video started rolling because the video goes on well beyond the point where the restraint could have any argument as being needed for safety.
Whenever one of the videos of police abuse snowballs into a national story, there's invariably people claiming that the police needed to engage in whatever brutality they did for personal safety. This is always frustrating, but amusing to me as I have gone into plenty violent situations unarmed with zero authority to use force like police do, and even less freedom to defend myself like an average citizen would due regulations over my job. Not once, not one time, have I suffered a serious injury and I've been able to subdue the situation the vast majority of the time. Of course, I'm in that role because I have the ability to do that, but police can too. I've trained individual officers on deescalation for the populations of people I work with and they've done fine. And, in fact, police frequently do use non-violent techniques to deescalate dangerous situations all the time in all sorts of contexts. Just not in those videos.
One of the ways in which policing is racially biased is an on average tendency to go towards more violent, confrontational means of forcing compliance for blacks than for whites. This leads to more blacks getting charged with crimes related to the arrest and more blacks being the victim of police misconduct.
In this case, it's god damn obvious they didn't need to be on his neck for close to 10 minutes. It doesn't matter if, before the video, he grabbed their gun. There's literally nothing he could've been doing that would justify that restraint given other techniques available once he was subdued. If this was the story of one bad apple, it'd be unfortunate, but this officer and his accomplices were protected by the system every step of the way until it exploded. And there's a good chance he might get off in the end anyway. It's not one bad apple. It's a bad system.

You'd get a kick out of this video Doc. It looks like some Antifa types were going to torch a building. They were run off. The video involves an argument about who is and isn't from there. But at the end the whites are calling a black person KKK, MAGA racist, etc. It's hilarious. Tense, but hilarious.

You know. I...
crap’s getting weird. That reminds me of the spiderman meme I saw about two groups calling each other racist, but the details escape me right now. Whatever the case may be, once in a while 4chan memes well:

How about just staying off our land and keeping your hands off our paychecks? I know living and let live is not an option for your kind. And, of course, we're not here discussing how horrible white people are because it's proven very difficult to scrub people like Ajax from existence.

My paychecks subsidize your state Ajax. The way you imagine the dollars flow is the exact opposite. And it's not even a concern you really have. Remember when the President you worship like a religious figure abused his national emergency authority to start multiple trade wars leading to an increase in expenses for consumers by raising taxes on their goods? Then lied about it saying other countries were paying the tarrifs? Remember when this resulted in counter tariffs on American goods severely hurting farmers? Remember when that same person then took billions of dollars from hardworking Americans like myself and just handed it over to those farmers as welfare to offset the damaging effects of his trade war?
I think you do. I also think you remember that you said not one word of discontent because you don't care about redistribution per se. In fact, your posting suggests you like it so long is wealth is redistributed away from people you dislike and towards those you do. And this crudely maps onto your racism.
That aside, while your an awful human being who actively makes the world a worse place, I don't attribute this to a feature of your racial identity. Because I'm not a racist, you see.

Ajax gets a bunch of government dollars, so he’s not upset about socialized medicine since his lips are firmly attached to the feds’ teats.

You have land? Where? You have the title deeds, I assume. And, by the way, who is the 'us' behind 'our', if you follow me?
So, no taxes then? Well, I suppose that means you can't drive on the roads, because you don't pay for them. Oh, and don't call the police either, OK? And when you come to a bridge over a river, please be sure to wade across.
Because you wouldn't want to be a freeloader, would you?

Notice when the issue is criminality in Trump-world, Ajax adopts a radical faux-civil libertarianism where basic investigative work is treated as a scandalous abuse of rights. But when the issue is brutally killing a black person on camera via police abuse, then he flips into a defending the police's need to crack some heads. For Ajax, the law exists to help shield his allies from accountability and to punish those he hates. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do you have any evidence that the cop is a racist? There are cases of black cops killing unarmed men, would that be racism? The real problem is bad training. I think training makes the police too paranoid about everything. The solution is better training and a better salary.
I don't think the officer wanted to kill him, the cop knew he was being recorded. But he is guilty of manslaughter.
