Some Communist countries have stock markets. Are you off the “let’s give communism a try” thing?

I was never on that, so don't pretend for a second you've managed to move me when you never properly represented my views to begin with.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 1:35 amSome Communist countries have stock markets. Are you off the “let’s give communism a try” thing?

You literally typed, “Maybe we should give communism a try.” My bad for taking your statement seriously.

It is interesting to me how most communists I know say one thing but do another. You are a communist by night in these forums but you're a very shrewd businessman and entrepreneur by day. And if you're doing it legally as opposed to how our elected officials did it in Washington, good for you.

Some relevant quotes:honorentheos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 12:14 amhttps://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archi ... er/612373/
When we look deeper, the story that emerges is confusing and contradictory. Americans locked in their houses with children, work, and baked bread have created an extinction-level event for small businesses, which has resulted in unprecedented layoffs and furloughs. But thanks to government stimulus, overall income has increased, and Americans have shifted spending to the virtual economy, compressing 10 years of anticipated e-commerce growth into a matter of weeks.
The COVID-19 crisis is simultaneously thrusting Americans into the pre-urban homestead economy of the 1830s, re-creating the Depression-era joblessness of the 1930s, and pulling forward the virtual economy of the 2030s. We are living in the weirdest economy ever.
One thing that is being widely reported on is there is a shift in wealth taking place that is unprecedented and resulting in the extinction of small businesses even as large businesses are doing fine. This is concerning for a number of reasons, not least of which being the destructive forces income inequality feeds in society. But we also have seen how local businesses that can provide services when centralized large providers get shut down creates resilience to the impacts of events like COVID. We are becoming more susceptible to shocks when we centralize if one buys into Talibs views in anti-fragility.
Another comment I've seen is this current crisis hurt the demand side of the economy in such a unique way we don't know how to respond to it other than using tools aimed at propping up collapsing markets. We don't know how to fix individual households and small businesses failing because our experience is with credit and investing freezing up. So the markets are doing great because the stimulus we know how to do works best at helping spur investment and open up credit.
I don't know. I'm sure folks who are able to make money will do so, but right now the broader economy is defined by uncertainty. Markets used to fear uncertainty. Now not so much.

Seems we have our share of morons on the forum who don't really understand what communism entails.ajax18 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 2:21 amIt is interesting to me how most communists I know say one thing but do another. First I'm a member of ANTIFA and now a Communist. You two need to get your crap together and make up your mind.

What are you, drunk? Are you denying you stated on an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thread that we should give communism a try? I can link it, but it’s to your old profile.

Re: Stock Market goes up: What's the disconnect?
The theme that ties all of these stories together is divergence. Consumer spending has diverged from consumer income. The at-home economy has diverged from the out-of-home economy. The stock market has diverged from the labor market. And the technology sector has, for now, accelerated into the future, breaking away from many other publicly traded companies. If you’re confused about the economy, I don’t blame you. What I can tell you is that today’s economy is that of 1830, 1930, and 2030, all at once. The question I cannot answer is: What year will it be tomorrow?

[quote=MeDotOrg post_id=1227312 time=1591342284 user_id=16499]. I guess what I don't understand would be how current economic picture would make the U.S. look like a safe haven. It's not that I wouldn't bet against the U.S. economy bouncing back, but in how long and in what form?

Well. The US is the world’s largest consumer of imports in the world which indicates disposable income. Since our population has doubled from the 50’s and our consumer ‘index’ has held steady for so long it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll maintain currency hegemony for at least another 20 years, that China will continue to by our bonds and export to us, that that relationship will continue, and so our markets are pretty safe moving forward. I thought it was an absolute miracle when the market dipped to 20k, a d because of our track record it was irresistible to investors to take advantage of a gift just sitting there.
So. The economy will probably recover fully around, and this is just a guess, in two years once people are inoculated from the coronavirus. But the stock market? Hrm. Kinda depends on our employment rate maintaining a steady gain so investor confidence stays bullish which will probably happen since the government really can’t afford to keep creating digital currency the way they did the last couple of months.
But, I’m just talkin’. I don’t really know, and if I did, I would’ve bought bitcoin by the boatload when it was cheap.
