Re: Stark Reality of Ineptitude of Trump's Covid-19 Response
I don't think so, not for me. I came on there in October 1999, ran the gauntlet (as it were) and by December we were all sweating it over Y2K and whether or not we'd all be able to continue on with each other--which is ironic when you consider what my beginnings were on there.Gunnar wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 8:28 amNot quite as long ago as I thought; are you sure it wasn't earlier than that? There were a lot of good people on that board, and many good discussions. It's too bad a few people flew of the handle and ruined it for everyone. I'm thankful for the moderators on this board for keeping things more or less under control.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 7:17 amDon't hold me to the exact date but I believe my first post there was Oct 14, 1999--give or take a day. :-) Only Craig and JAK could claim the same longevity with me as you do.
I agree that this board is similar to our old board but I do wish the old board had had rules because that is one of the reasons that it ended in a total blood bath. And I miss the threaded view and what we could do with the thread titles. ;-)
RFM used to link to the very first pages of posts on the board (no longer shows any indication of it's existence at all) and if I am not mistaken, you and JAK were on those first pages and the poster we know here as beastie was there under a different screen name. She was gone long before I arrived.
I was still posting there when I started posting on ZLMB and then ultimately here. Still maintaining a presence on the old board. There are other MDB posters who were on that board. Even ldsfaqs posted there as leeuniverse which is his more commonly recognized screen name.
I learned far more in those 10 years than I ever bargained for and that is a gross understatement of fact! One of the posters used to call it an intellectual meat grinder. Really? I didn't notice!

Re: Stark Reality of Ineptitude of Trump's Covid-19 Response
Bump
The point I made in OP is more obviously true than ever. No other country's head of state has botched the response to the pandemic worse than our dear President Trump, though Balsonaro of Brazil and Vladimir Putin of Russia, with the 2nd and 3rd most confirmed covid-19 cases respectively, come close, and are rapidly closing the gap. Both of those 2 leaders are authoritarian, narcissistic despots and bullies, arguably much like Trump himself, and for whom Trump has often expressed admiration and friendship, and whom he apparently wants to emulate.
Let's review again the stark comparison between the responses of South Korea and the USA, for example:
1. The USA with only 4.25% of the world's entire population, and only 6.6 times South Korea's population has 1,941,673 confirmed cases, almost 28% of the entire world's 7,015,071 cases, and more than 164 times South Korea's total of 11,814.
2. USA's total death toll stands at 110,514, more than 27% of the entire world's total of 402,852, and more than 405 times South Korea's total of 273.
I repeat the challenge in my OP: Do any of you hard right conservatives still have the unmitigated gall, stupidity and/or dishonesty to deny that no national leader has botched the pandemic response worse than your beloved Lord and Savior, Donald J. Trump?

Updated figures:As Mitt Romney pointed out, despite Trump's boasts, our record of testing for corona virus is nothing to celebrate, when we consider that by early March when the USA had tested only 2,000 and Trump was still downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic and dismissing the need for strong mitigating measures. South Korea, by that time, had already tested 140,000--70 times as many, and initiated strict social distancing, quarantines and shutdowns to mitigate the impending crisis.

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Re: Stark Reality of Ineptitude of Trump's Covid-19 Response
There's an excellent article in the Atlantic right now called History Will Judge the Complicit. It lists all the reasons why GOP politicians are not doing anything about Trump.
She's basically saying that most people know Trump is a supreme “F” up, but they have various reasons (rationalizations) to ride it out. What's funny to me is that as I read the reasons, they all fit nicely into my four categories of Trump supporter:
- Stupid
- Ignorant
- Insane
- Asshole
So to your challenge, no Trump supporter will even answer (unless they feel the urge to lie), because most of them know he's a massive incompetent and baby tyrant. They're selfish damned pricks and traitors to democracy. A couple hundred thousand deaths are acceptable because judges.

I would add moral coward to that list. And I read that same article. It was as excellent as it was depressing. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 1:05 pmThere's an excellent article in the Atlantic right now called History Will Judge the Complicit. Yes, I realize that, but part of repeating that challenge is to repeatedly reinforce the awareness of how inescapable is the fact of his massive incompetence and pathological dishonesty and narcissism. Plus, if they actually try to answer that challenge, it will guarantee some hilarious amusement at their expense. Maybe, just maybe, it will nudge some of them towards the realization that supporting Trump was a mistakeSo to your challenge, no Trump supporter will even answer (unless they feel the urge to lie), because most of them know he's a massive incompetent and baby tyrant. Moral coward falls under the asshole umbrella, in my opinion, with a dash of stupid in the mix..
That was also my reaction. And I read that same article. It was as excellent as it was depressing.
I will never fault you for being the eternal optimist. I understand why you go there and I wish I could, too. I just think his base is incurable. The spell needs to be broken somehow, and I don't think appealing to reason will work on the Trump mindset. Reason is not one of their values.Yes, I realize that, but part of repeating that challenge is to repeatedly reinforce the awareness of how inescapable is the fact of his massive incompetence and pathological dishonesty and narcissism. Raw id, belligerent selfishness... that's the Trump-loving base. To admire this fool is to admit you're a selfish prick.

And/or expose yourself as one. Sometimes I think Trump even realizes that himself and is proud of it!

Sometimes I think Trump is intimately aware of all of his faults. He articulates them well whenever he needs to come up with an insult for someone else.
