Has the burning and looting helped prepare our infrastructure to deal with Covid? Even just peacefully protesting results in blocking emergency response vehicles. Do you think the protesters have a right to block off interstates?

I don't know. The experts have been wrong on a lot of stuff about this virus. I wear the mask to try to put patients at ease but I understand full well my mask doesn't protect me. I did have a patient who told me she tested positive for COVID, first time I ever met someone who I knew had it. You won't like hearing this but she said it was no worse than a bad cold. Most patients are over it when it comes to masks whether Democrat or Republican. They're sick of the masks fogging their glasses. I'm sick of wiping fog off the phoropter. We've been doing more contact lens fits. There's always a few germaphobes with OCD but not much more than before Covid. Usually watching me clean equipment helps them feel a little better though I still question what good it's really doing. Nearly everyone agrees that whatever the outcome, 40% unemployment is unacceptable and simply cannot be allowed. If people really were that concerned about flattening the curve that we must have 40% unemployment, release a large number of criminals from jail, then orchestrating these massive protests and adding large numbers of people being checked into and out of county jail because they went too far... It's blatant hypocrisy. So we're gonna find out one way or another if this social distancing and shutdown from work really did any good based on how much of a resurgence of Covid comes from these protests. Thus far, it doesn't appear the protests, reopening, or Governor's breaking their own social distancing orders has spread it much. From what I hear, Sweden handled this better. It's starting to look to me like the shutdown was a massive waste.

Ajax has been told this before. I think he knows but refuses to do it because he has been told by people he views as liberal/leftists/enemies. I this this same phenomenon with alt right types. They seem to have a number of beliefs based on being the opposite of what they view leftists as believing. I suspect if most liberals denied global warming the alt right would do a 180 on the issue.

Actually it's more for the wearer to limit the spread of the virus if they have it. More people wearing masks in crowded places will reduce transmission of the virus.

Why would I not like hearing that? Most have mild symptoms and some have no symptoms at all. What we look at is what percentage will die as well as what percentage may have long term health problems. We already know it's much higher then your typical flu or cold. It's a new virus so we don't know a lot of important things about, including if we get long term immunity. Without a vaccine it could be something that just never goes away and we have something new to add to all the other things that end up killing us off early.

Funny I never heard we had to have 40% unemployment. It's less and only for a short time if you do your part.

I suspect you will get some spread from the protests, but you have to wait a couple of weeks to see. Other countries have done a better Job then the US has. It's been a chaotic mess which means you won't get the best results you could have if the federal government had been prepared. It's what you get for putting a complete Moron in as president.

No they have not done as well as you think, and their economy was not spared. They also have made a number of changes to combat transmission, but their deaths have been quite a bit higher then comparable nations around them. The reality is pandemic's cause a lot of economic loss due to people changing their behaviors. There is a lot to learn about handling deadly virus that we can learn for the future, so looking at how they did things and comparing to other areas that have been more strict is certainly something we should look at.

I don't live in fear either, but I also will try and avoid many of the ways we can die or be permanently hurt resulting in a much lower quality of life. Be open minded and smart and you can easily avoid being a Darwin award.
