Thinking what you see today in COVID testing represents the current state rather than a snapshot of what happened a few weeks ago is like looking at a supernova and thinking it happened today rather than the years ago it took for the light of the event to reach us.ajax18 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 1:56 pmCoronavirus Positive Tests in Minnesota Drop from 10% to 8% in Two Weeks Despite Riots

Changes in the positivity rate of testing don’t tell us much unless we know context. At the beginning of the outbreak, there was very little testing in the US. As a result, states built up inventories of undiscovered cases. Each state has to work its way through that inventory before it can tell how fast the virus is actually spreading. So, you have to look at the change in the number of tests performed over the same period. During the last two weeks, testing in Minnesota has increased. So, the decline may simply mean that the state is testing faster than the disease is spreading. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 2:13 pmThinking what you see today in COVID testing represents the current state rather than a snapshot of what happened a few weeks ago is like looking at a supernova and thinking it happened today rather than the years ago it took for the light of the event to reach us.ajax18 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 1:56 pmCoronavirus Positive Tests in Minnesota Drop from 10% to 8% in Two Weeks Despite Riots

In Washington, where we had one of the earliest outbreaks, our positivity rate lately is a little below 2%. I suspect that means we’re close to the point where changes in positivity actually reflect changes in the rate of spread.
TL/DR. What Ajax quoted means zip about the rate of transmission in MN. Naturally, he got this factoid from Breitbart.

At the close of business on Sunday, June 7, that cumulative percentage of those who tested positive for COVID-19 in Minnesota from the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic had dropped to just 8.1 percent, or 27,886 out of 344,203 tested.
During the 14 day period beginning Monday May 25 and ending Sunday June 7, the percentage of those tested for COVID-19 who tested positive in Minnesota plunged to five percent. Only 7,313 of the 146,239 who were tested during that 14 day period tested positive.
Almost half of the testing done since the start of the pandemic occured in that 14 day window. I don't think you have to be a brain genius rocket surgeon to recognize that increased testing will result in more people being tested who don't have the virus, bringing the percentage of people who test positive down. But the other side of that number, 7,313 positives in two weeks of a 27,886 total positive count or about a quarter of all positive cases identified since the outbreak should have caused you to think, "Maybe this source is playing me for some kind of idiot?"

If ajax is the competent optometrist he claims to be, he must be conversant enough in math to see through the idiocy of that Breitbart article. That he didn't even try to question it, once again attests to his dishonesty, bias and/or laziness. He just doesn't want to know the truth if it doesn't align with what he has already decided to believe.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I think the biggest difference is that I think getting people back to work is much more important than holding a nationwide protest on police reform. It's the only way I can explain the mainstream media refusing to say one word about these protests setting back the extremely expensive social distancing shutdown.

Re: Fauci is either a liar or a fraud
I've heard and read several reporters talking about this exact thing. What on earth do you consider the "mainstream media?" They haven't mentioned it on Fox? If not, maybe you should question their reporting a little more.ajax wrote:It's the only way I can explain the mainstream media refusing to say one word about these protests setting back the extremely expensive social distancing shutdown.
You can't have it both ways. You either think we should all get back to work because there's no threat and there's nothing wrong with the protests from a public health perspective, or we should actually take a killer virus seriously, and be very concerned about the risk these protesters are taking.
I am very concerned about the health of the protesters (and everyone they come in contact with afterward). That, in no way, distracts me from understanding the very real and valid concerns the patriotic citizens of this country have.
Frankly, it's a very difficult dilemma.

You like to bitch about supposed leftists protesters but never bitched at all about right wings protests that were going on during the pandemic.ajax18 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 5:20 pmI think the biggest difference is that I think getting people back to work is much more important than holding a nationwide protest on police reform. It is not a problem of understanding some math. Ajax is biased in the extreme to believe certain things and will not spend anytime questioning whether he has things wrong. Breitbart is an authority to him only because it consistently tells him what he wants to believe. He will never question any of it. It's classic behavior from a very closed mind. This is why he consistently will ignore people presenting good evidence and questions that would help him better find the truth.Gunnar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 3:29 pmIf ajax is the competent optometrist he claims to be, he must be conversant enough in math to see through the idiocy of that Breitbart article.
