LOL. The alternate suggestion had CHAD as the acronym.honorentheos wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 2:40 amCalling it CHAZ is...huh.
Messaging is not a strength in this crowd. I assume they make their slogans to be intentionally provocative which works about none of the time.

Maybe. If it catches on. I’m thinking of it as a cross between occupy and a bizarre piece of performance art that no one understands.

Yeah. I guess I'm a little too concerned that history suggests things can really go in a lot of directions from here, and many of those options are pretty bad. Now, were the direction it takes involves a culture of nonviolence that doesn't require an MLK or Ghandi (or somehow in the age of social media we still could have inspiring sustained leadership with warts and all exposed which I doubt), there's hope. But if violence and retaliation becomes the norm then it's off a cliff. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:15 amThe interesting thing to me is that stuff like this is gaining traction at all. There is a serious re-imagining of society happening ubiquitously. It really is starting to feel like we are at the beginning of the kind of organic revolution Bernie couldn't consciously manufacture. I guess we'll see how long these protests last.honorentheos wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:03 amI agree. Not sure there's a good way to say it but I thought the graphic above captured my views. What's up with the lack of creativity there? "Autonomous Zone" sounds like a dorky thing a wonk in the UN would call a region sitting between two nation states. Did they name it by committee vote? If so, ugh.

Interesting thought that it could be at least in large part performance for the sake of statement over substance. Could be they caught a tiger by the tail. Or they could do something surprising. But I'm not betting on the latter.

If you have to say “we really mean” twice, you’re doing it wrong.

Probably. But the graphic is what I think is needed. Perhaps the problem is slogan culture sucks, and the kind of change needed isn't compatible with slogans? Slogans work when their ambiguity captures imaginations ("Hope", "Make America Great Again") that people can fill in as they will without doing damage to the core idea
The issue with Defund the Police is it can be taken literally or symbolically...and the two are incompatible. One can mean something like redirect funds or decommision and abolish the police...and the ideas are incompatible. It's provocative and self-destructive.

Hey man, you will always be at a disadvantage with the mob if you're relying on them to understand nuance.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Re: Did this really just happen?
I think it’s interesting, but I don’t know whether it’s gaining traction. It’s also fraught with problems. We have lots of militia types in this state. So what happens if they try to reclaim CHAZ for America. Or to set up Galt’s Gulch. (OK, it’s a hill, so Aynrandia.). Or if our large homeless population decides that CHAZ sounds wonderful. Or a local gang thinks a meth lab in a police station is the best thing ever. The founders of CHAZ have just spent a couple crapping on the local police. So, who they gonna call? Some Schmo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:15 amThe interesting thing to me is that stuff like this is gaining traction at all.
