For those who have seen the movie, Teddy's closing monologue and actions fit exactly how I see folks like Ajax behave in these discussions. Any attempt to drill down, to examine a belief might make some small progress only to hit a hard reset with a response that is a regurgitated right wing trope. In this thread alone, one can find multiple examples where a couple of on topic posts would suddenly take a hard turn into something like, "Liberals lied about social distancing to hurt the economy and Trump's reelection, but don't really care or they'd tell everyone to stay home from protests.'

Or

Integration causes conflict.

Or

We'd all be better off if the nation divorced along partisan lines.

It's a hard reset just like a scene out of Memento. I can only imagine there may be some small inner dialog that debates if he needs to think about what's been said. Maybe.

What I'm sincerely interested in is the inner dialog that takes place when ajax reads something incontrovertible that shows his savior is a fuc-king liar or makes him look bad. Does he just think, That doesn't fit my narrative, so I'll reject it...? Does denying the thing smacking him in his face make him feel like he's a faith warrior?

How does he handle it? There has to be a denial muscle in his brain that probably won't even let him think about it as much as I've described. Mindless automaton makes more sense.
