Organizers Pledge to Engage and Mobilize Disenchanted GOP Voters
43 Alumni for Biden logoWASHINGTON, DC – Hundreds of former George W. Bush presidential administration, campaign and political staff have joined together to form the 43 Alumni for Biden political action committee (PAC) to support Joe Biden and drive a mission of restoring the principles of unity, tolerance and compassion to the greatest elected office in the world.
Through our advocacy, 43 Alumni for Biden seeks to unite and mobilize a community of historically Republican voters who are dismayed and disappointed by the damage done to our nation by Donald Trump’s presidency. Our efforts will focus on engaging voters with shared concerns about the future of our country and compelling them to make the right choice by supporting Joe Biden.
“For four years, we have watched with grave concern as the party we loved has morphed into a cult of personality that little resembles the Party of Lincoln and Reagan,” said Karen Kirksey, 43 Alumni for Biden PAC Director. “We endorse Joe Biden not necessarily in full support of his political agenda but rather in full agreement with the urgent need to restore the soul of this nation. Once elected, we look forward to working in a bipartisan way through civil, spirited debate on the many important issues facing Americans today and for decades to come.”
43 Alumni for Biden was formed and organized by a group of alumni from the 43rd Administration but welcomes the participation and support from family, friends, colleagues and others who believe in our mission to elect Joe Biden as the next President of the United States.
“Joe Biden called on every American to, ‘Look at where we are now and think anew. Is this who we are? Is this who we want to be? Is this what we want to pass on to our children,’” said organizing committee member Kristopher Purcell. “We believe that a Biden administration will adhere to the rule of law, ensure equal protection for all Americans and restore dignity and integrity to the White House. This November, we are choosing country over party.”
Great stuff.

Historically, this much bad blood within the party does not portend well for the election. Look at the Johnson in '68 and Goldwater in '64. Truman survived the Dixiecrats in '48, but the man had the Roosevelt coalition behind him.
All signs point to a Democratic landslide, but what the hell do signs mean since 2016? For me, that's the big conundrum about prognosticating the fall. On the one hand, 2016 is a cautionary tale, but lately I wonder if we're forgetting what a perfect storm got Donald Trump elected. Now Trump has 3½ years of track record. The unknown is now known.
In all probability Covid-19 will still be killing thousands of Americans each week in November. No one will be running on the economy. Hoping for a vaccine by November is magical thinking. The United States will be on hard times, and the President who promised that we would sick of winning does not know how to deal with hard times.
Biden can be prone to a gaff now and then, but if you were a press secretary, would you rather clean up after Trump or Biden? Barring a major faux pas, all Biden has to do is follow the advice of Corey Lewandowski: "Let Trump be Trump."
I said in a previous post that I thought the right Libertarian could really tear away some voters who can't stomach voting for a Democrat, and I still think Trump is vulnerable to a principled conservative candidate. Do the next four months hold an event that will help Trump stanch the bleeding? I can't see it from here.
"The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization." - Will Durant "We've kept more promises than we've even made" - Donald Trump "Of what meaning is the world without mind? The question cannot exist." - Edwin Land
Do the next four months hold an event that will help Trump stanch the bleeding? I can't see it from here.
Or do the next four months hold an event that will put his head underwater forever and all time? Taxes released? Inquiry as to the Russian bounty scandal?
I try to hold fast to the idea that we couldn't have predicted we'd be ass deep in COVID-19 like we are today with a candidate for re-election attempting to hold the ONLY large gatherings in the country when everything else is locked down. And yet, here we are.
While I am on the topic, why isn't he using that defense act thing to supply us all with N95 respirators? Huh? Why not?
by the way, we have 0ver 45K new cases today at just nearly 4 p.m. my time. Where are our N95 masks?

I can't either, but I'm very shy about predicting anything. I won't get over the last election until the electorate redeems itself.
I can't believe how much happy talk there is about Trump not running or accepting the nomination. Sure, I'd love that, but I don't think he's smart enough to realize that stepping down is his best option for avoiding the humiliation of a loss. He also might be afraid of criminal charges once his presidential immunity is taken from him, which wouldn't be the dumbest thought he's had.
I don't know... I kind of think not doing anything about COVID-19 might result in a massive repudiation of Trumpism. I like to hope so, anyway. If there are over 200,000 deaths by November, it's hard to imagine anything screwing Biden except massive voter suppression/election rigging.

It is indeed encouraging to see how an increasing number of strong, well known Republicans are so strongly disgusted with Trump that they would rather support the Democrat, Joe Biden, than vote for Trump. Joe Biden is not my first choice for President by a long shot. I don't think he is progressive enough for what our country and the world really needs in these times, but for this election, perhaps we can live with that, if it helps persuade Republicans disgusted with Trump to turn against him. If Biden were more progressive than he is, perhaps there would not be as many Republicans willing to vote even for a Democrat, if that were the only way to get rid of Trump.

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

One of the more encouraging and surprising developments it that even Mitch McConnell seems to be moving towards warning his fellow Republicans running for political office to avoid seeking Trump's endorsement or appearing to support Trump.

Not to puncture your optimism, but as of right now, Republicans are more behind Trump than they were in 2016 and this isn't simply explained by shifting partisan identification. About half (half!) of Republican Congressional Representatives from Trump's first day in office are already out and the group that replaced them, while smaller, is more radically Trumpist than the prior group.
There also were a ton of Republican leaders who were opposed to Trump in 2016 that later reconciled themselves to him. I'm sure some of that is cynical needs for political jobs, some of that is more comfort with Trump given his polices in office, and some of that is just a case of Fox-brain. For now, he has actually improved his position among Republicans, both leaders and rank and file. There's just a vocal group of disgruntled/ex-Republicans with powerful media connections who really know how to megaphone their voice.
Biden is stronger among Democrats than Clinton was and independents, at the moment, are way more in the Democratic column than they were in 2016. If the election were held today, Trump would be in deep, deep trouble. The longer that goes on, the more rats you'll see flee the ship. But you saw that after the Access Hollywood tape, and look how quickly tunes changed then when it didn't sink him like people thought it would.

The biggest factor that got Trump elected, aside from election fundamentals not caring who the nominee is, was a broken media culture. That culture still exists, but so far Biden has been teflon and 3 historic crises happening all at once is keeping media attention in check. I'm just waiting for the chance to "but her emails!" Biden to run out the clock. With each passing day, we're a little bit closer.
Trump not biting the bullet on sound cornonavirus response, besides being monstrous, is going to bite him in the ass because it's going to extend the severe crisis far deeper into the election season than it had to. And all indications are he did that for election-related reasons. Trump, seemingly like all fascists, is just catastrophically incompetent even when he's malicious. He might not fail upwards forever.
tl;dr - Democrats want a black woman, mostly. Warren, nah.

Is that an attempt to troll me? That's not what the poll you quoted said, and Warren has consistently, for months, topped polls of Democrats, including Black Democrats, on VP preference. The way the Fox article misleadingly frames this poll probably says something about who the people wrote that want to be VP, though.
