Does anyone know of anything racist or disparaging John Gee has ever said about blacks? Ask around so it can be circulated and picked up by the press. If Gee has skeletons it’s time to pay up.

Here is the thing ... if cojcolds attacks Mr. Hauglid for too much truth telling, people will look at what he says and they cannot let that happen because he is a respected scholar and people will start questioning Bednar or Oaks (heaven forbid). However, Mr. Hauglid also supports that ne'er do well Dan Vogel. So, caution should be the word in this matter and a balancing of harms should be explored from cojcolds perspective. Cojcolds always gets bad press when it persecutes truth tellers and that should be a factor as well. Believers don't or shouldn't want Mr. Hauglid to be on Mr. Dehlin's podcast after a meeting with the Stake President occurs. I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but, I don't think Mr. Hauglid is looking for a following or looking to lead people out. So, perhaps they leave him alone? Do you hear me cojcolds lurkers? Leave the man alone!

Pardon my ignorance, but can BYU touch Hauglid's pension? I think he is near the end of a contract.

Hauglid is apparently a 66-year-old Associate Professor after 21 years on BYU faculty. Is there something unusual about him not having reached the full Professor rank?

Maybe my understanding of the American academic career path is fading after all this time in the quite different German system but I thought it was normal to be promoted from Assistant to Associate after six years (though at least a few places have an eight-year tenure clock). I think of the last step as being less rigidly scheduled but 15 years ought to be long enough. You can't coast but you don't normally have to win a major prize or anything to make full Professor.

Am I wrong about American academia in general, or is BYU somehow special, or has Hauglid somehow had a rough time?

The irony of Two Inks Gee, complaining to BYU about Hauglid telling the truth, is just about as staggering as it gets.

Perhaps Gee is just using Hauglid as a pawn in his game of trying to hit back at the people who bounced him off into a campus Cul-De-Sac...It will be interesting to see if Gee’s new book (a rip off of Ash’s ‘Shaken Faith Syndrome’ apparently) contains anything the Church would consider to be lying.

Lying is intentionally deceiving others. Bearing false witness is one form of lying. The Lord gave this commandment to the children of Israel: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16). Jesus also taught this when He was on earth (see Matthew 19:18). There are many other forms of lying. When we speak untruths, we are guilty of lying. We can also intentionally deceive others by a gesture or a look, by silence, or by telling only part of the truth. Whenever we lead people in any way to believe something that is not true, we are not being honest.
