I'm leaning more towards him having made this move in order to try to damage public trust in the CDC. If the numbers start to crash or hospitals know they're inaccurate, someone will surely pipe up.

Do you think the IG does inspections on this kind of thing? Let's hope so...I should think that both the CDC and HHS would be subject to IG inspections but I don't know that for a fact. I remember IG inspections--->

The problem with that is that Trump is openly averse to independent IG oversight. He can't bear the thought that it might expose any malfeasance or mistakes on his part. He thinks he doesn't need independent oversight. He has famously claimed, "I'll be the oversight!" Any IG who exposes evidence of any shortcomings or malfeasance Trump would rather remain hidden is almost immediately fired or reassigned.

Ah yes, there's a sensible solution. Donald Trump, who's been impeached and criminally investigated, who's paid millions in fraud settlements, who's no longer allowed to run a charity in New York because his so-called foundation was considered flagrantly corrupt, is now volunteering to be a check on himself -- just as soon as Congress gives his administration a half-trillion dollars to spread around at its own discretion.

The answer came a day after the president opened the door to directing taxpayer money to his own private-sector ventures.

Meanwhile, reports are saying that the virus stats are disappearing then reappearing on and off the CDC website. I can think of no reason that the reporting couldn't have been routed to BOTH the CDC and HHS. But I'm not running for re-election so what do I know?
