It's funny how people talk so much about how they hate the US, how racist we are, how stupid we are, how much damage we've done to the economy. Why are you here? Why aren't you in Canada or Great Britain or some other western European socialist country with open borders with values that mirror your own.

I am in Canada. I like the US. They have been a great country even if it has flaws as do all the others. As to open borders you know little of how it really is or what socialism is and no interest in educating yourself.

I'm sorry but none of us are wealthy enough to just stop going to work and not everyone can find a job online to work from home. I hadn't taken a sick day in 10 years until this ridiculous six week shutdown. It's just not part of my culture. It's unacceptable. No matter how sick we get, we find a way to keep working. That's how we have lived and died with honor. And that culture that you think is so stupid and primitive is what created the wealth that attracted you to this country.

It's funny to watch people talk about how they had it so hard and had to walk uphill both ways to school each day. You've had it quite easy compared to most and you understand little of this virus and what it can do, and how it will negatively affect the economy regardless of what restrictions are put in place. I can fly anywhere in Canada now yet flights are only a quarter of what they were. Most people are still avoiding dine in even though it is open. We are seeing changing behaviors that are affecting the economy that will not change much until this pandemic is over, and we will probably see some permanent changes.

You know, I really, really would prefer a sick optometrist to call me, say he or she is sick, and cancel the appointment. That way:

(a) I won't risk catching whatever it is the optometrist may have. I'm happy to leave the optometrist all the honor attached to any dying there may be; I want none of it.
(b) I won't risk being prescribed for by an optometrist whose ability to evaluate my eyes has been markedly impaired by illness.

Of course I do realise that there are some people for whom the honor attached to any action is directly proportional to the likelihood of resulting fatality, combined with an absence of any obvious benefit resulting therefrom. But I mean, this is business we are talking here, you know. Not Pickett's charge.

"40-50 days a year"? You are sick a month and a half to almost two months out of the year? Perhaps you shouldn't be working with the public, let alone so close to mucus membranes and airways.

You remind me of a respiratory therapist I work with. One day (this was pre COVID) he came into work with an obvious upper respiratory infection. I asked him if he was OK. he said he was sure he had "septic strep". I asked if he had seen a doctor.

His exact reply was "I don't believe in that medical science BS"

I was speechless.

What a classic example of projection on subby's part! Themis is certainly right that people, who like you, who support Trump are abject morons. I and an increasing majority of my fellow U.S. citizens are deeply embarrassed by the presence of people like you and ajax amongst us. Doesn't it deeply embarrass you to know, deep down inside, that there is simply no way to escape or spin away the incontrovertible fact that no nation has botched the response to the coronavirus pandemic more horribly and incompetently than ours, under Dear Leader, Donald J. Trump? I find that very embarrassing, and also that we somehow managed to elect such an idiot!

So much for American exceptionalism! Now, because of Trump, my beloved nation has become a laughing stock, an object of pity, and a pariah to most of the world, including even some of what used to be our closest allies! That's not the kind of exceptionalism to be proud of!
